Bed question

I have a question about my teardrop i am building. It is 4 foot wide so the inside is 46 1/2'' wide. So my question is what kind and where you get the matress for your tear drops. Weather you buy one or just cut some foam for the bed.

...check any local fabric shop for foam, or online, I use these guys http://stores.ebay.com/The-Foam-Guys ...send 'em an email and they will custom cut your mattress for ya...my last one was 4x56x78 2.5#sqft hi-density foam...147USD to my door...added a 2" memfoam topper for an exquisitely comfortable sleep.........

Just today picked up a foam mattress from JC Penny. It was 5" thick, full size - 52" x 73", My Kit has a cabin 46 1/2 x 78, so I cut 5 1/2" off the side and glued that piece to the end. Worked great! And it is reasonably comfortable. And....it was only $89.00 plus tax and shipping. Thanks Jim Linder

Did the foam that you just purchased from JC Penny fill out to five inches?
Some posts on the web page say that it does not expand like advertised.
That is a great price and I would purchase if you are satisfied with it.

Yes it did, And I was a little unsure at first, especially when I picked it up and it was compressed in a box, and with the experience others have had. I have a pop-up that has 4" foam mattresses, and it is marginally exceptable, so I knew the 5" would work. I considered JoAnns, but even with a 40% coupon it would have been $140 plus tax.

Although I know that air mattresses are not an expeirenced Teardroppers first choice, has anyone tried the air mattress with the 2" foam topper at Wal-Mart? I think it is $99.00 around here.

Yup,

Tried it out in the house on the air bed, before I put the topper on the 5" foam futon that was in the TD. I didn't like it, the air bed just wasn't enough support to suit me, and I didn't wait for the air to leak out, again....

I have an inner spring pillow top mattress in the new trailer. If I ever build another tear, it will have a real mattress in it too. If you want to build in an access to put in an inner-spring bed see Gage's build pictures.

Check out the Ikea store in Bloomington. They have a clearance corner with discounted ones. They are really comfortable to sleep on and have a removable cover on the mattress. I bought one and cut it down and then replaced the cover. It works perfect and was around $70.00.

I have a Big Woody trailer and live in St. Paul, if you want to stop by sometime before or during your build. I can tell you where I've had problems with his build and how you might be able to avoid them.

IKEA Stores are a great source. They have one type of mattress for several pieces of furniture and some times, no..a lot of times they end up with more mattresses than furniture.

My brother got a rear foam mattress with a cover for his Scotty for $10.

The mattress I bought was designed for a fold down couch. It folds in half , so it makes it easy to get in and out of the trailer. You don't even notice the fold part at all while your sleeping on it.
