Mini Scotty Hilander... back on...siding started

Got the outside skins on last night with the help of fellow forum member moreforles,(and a little help from a six pack of Great Lakes Conways Irish

The 1/8 bending ply had no problem making the tight bend on top but it took some doing. I'm glad that part is over!

Hoping to get more done this week so I can start on the interior.

Wow! That Scotty just barely fits! How much clearance is there between the roof and your garage door opener?

I don't believe I've ever seen a Scotty Highlander before. It will be interesting to watch your progress!

As for clearance between the garage door opener and the roof- there's about an inch and half.

Yes I will have to take the tires off to get it out of the garage. Storage won't be a problem though as I can store it in any number of outbuildings on my property.

and thanks for letting me help..... getting up close to it, while helping, gave me a little more realization as far as the dimensions on mine will be when its time to start my build.....

and now marks roof clearance is now an eighth of inch less..... for a minute there thought you'ld have to let the air out the tires to attach the top.... man that was close around the garage door opener.....

mine will not fit in the garage at all once I get a trailer and get the trailer itself finished, I'll have to pick up a car port canopy, I have a 10' by 10' but will need a 10 by 20 to build under.....

Mark, looks like you went back to work after I left and put the rest of the skin on... looking good, thanks again, let me know the next time you need a hand and don't have anyone available.... The more I do, the more it will inspire me to work on mine.... same thing happens when I have to help someone work on a car... gets me in the mood to work on one of mine... and thats a never ending list there....

After you left me and Butch put the last piece on. Still gotta do the inside. I guess I've come to understand this build may be a marathon and not a sprint.

Oh, and here's the link to that chrome paint I was telling you about. This stuff is amazing but it's real pricey.

I've never seen anything like it.Or the process in which it's used. Looks like they wet the article to be painted with purified water.It would definetely make the pod look authentic.

I haven't gotten much done lately as I broke one of my toes. Makes it tough to get around. I did manage to get a couple of hours in the shop tonight . The first thing I did was go Chip Foose on the bumper and "frenched" it in about 9". before:

I'm going to concentrate on getting the outside weathered in so I can move it out of my shop.

thanks for the link to the chrome paint..... it looks cool on small stuff, but I wonder what large objects would look like....

i've playing with sketchup, how do you upload finished (or at least partiallly finished drawings....)

Yeah 1/8" ply Bends real nice on the grain! Gonna use that on my hatch.

If you are wanting to upload them to the forums:
From the Sketchup menu bar...File...Export....2D image.... save it as a jpeg.
Then it's just a matter of posting it like any other picture. I usually have to re-size mine before I post them. My default size is 1680x 1050 and that would take too long to load from an external photo host.

I'm down for a few ... but not out. I'll be getting out to the shop tonight to do a few things... would like to make some siding samples... I'm going to order skins next weeks for the top... the rest will be sided. I think Air Spruce has a pretty good deal on aluminum.

My helper this evening... the beer of the week Harpoon Hibernian style Irish Red. mmmmmm ,beer.

In spite of my broken toe/foot I've been able to get quite a bit of the interior done.

Vinyl floor. The rest of the area to the back as well as the dinette benches will be carpeted after painting.It's easier to build on top of the vinyl floor than it is to cut a piece in around all the little obstructions.


Also got the front bunk framed in. I was going to build a gaucho but for ease and speed I just framed up a "daybed" set-up.


And the front bunk cushions cut:


Also got the potti/cabinet framed in. I'm going to paint the white "tileboard"... I don't want anything white.I'm going to have a countertop that sits on top of this and hinges to the wall to flip up ... will have a curtain mounted to the ceiling above for privacy.


Dinette benches framed in, will be covered in carpet


Skylight framed in...inspired by Bob Henry I'm going to cover these with carpet after painting


I'm planning on painting the interior this weekend as long as I get the last few items done.

I really want to get on to the exterior.
