Mission Creep. The bane of all projects.
We want to get off the ground and into comfortable, secure, always-ready-to-go, easy to manage, inexpensive and simple digs for long weekends, a week or three surfing. Saw a 5x8 teardrop at a co-workers house. Bingo. But.....we want to do it ourselves, save a small bit of dough, have even less complexity (no inverter), and without building the actual trailer. Cargo conversion. Get a 5x8, maybe 4, 4.5' high box, convert. Perfect. But the Misson Creep virus has arrived. Will the 57" wide bed have us banging into one another? Our former qeensize was a little tight but that was year after year. We could go 6' wide to solve that issue. Increase cost, weight, mental baggage. Maybe another foot or two in length. Increase cost, weight, mental baggage. Oh, the 6 footer is 6 feet tall. Well, maybe make it a micro standie? Increase cost, weight, mental baggage. My poor little Volvo 240. I'm sure we can get them to make a 6'x8'x54" high box, and maybe that's a reasonable answer but I keep wanting to get something off the shelf. Like the TC581 or RF581 (lighter!) here,

I suppose the thing to do is set up our bed with walls at 57" apart to see how the width works out. Until the width is frozen, nothing can be done.
My gut says to stay with the 5x8 no matter (actually 5x8.5 as standard item!) but I'd be interested in reactions from those who have wrestled (win or loose, or recovered) with this...what does your experience say?
Thanks,
John
