Aluminum trim question

I have purchased my trim for the roof. It is an aluminum insert trim.



My questions are these:

1) It did not come with the holes pre-drilled so how far apart should I drill the holes.

2) Would butyl tape be a good sealant to put under the trim?

3) How easy is it to bend around curves? It seems pretty bendy but has anyone had problems with the outside lip bending on a curve?

I put the holes on my edge trim 4" apart.

That type of trim should bend fine, though any angle will try to twist as you bend it. I found the best approach was to put a screw in, then bend a little, then put another screw in, bend a little more, repeat...

Butyl tape should be fine. That's what most RVs use. Here's some good tips for working with it. http://www.rvtechtips.com/?cat=16

Len's advice on making a bending jig for the trim worked great for me. I pre-bent it using a jig and then painted the trim to go with my trailer. I used butyl tape. It was very easy to work with and the whole process worked like a charm. The holes in my trim were pre-drilled 4 inches apart although I drilled a few extras in the front radius.

Mark, that stuff should be dead soft...I have bent it to a 6" radius with no problems(look at first pic in my album...the front box)...if the lower lip trys to flex out, a rubber mallet will take care ofit...other than that, Dean's advice is spot on............

Is there a rubber piece that fits in the channel to cover the screws? It's hard to tell from the photos?

Yep, it takes a vinyl insert to cover the screws. I comes in several colors. I'm using white to match my roof.

I bought it at Redneck Trailer Supply in south Arlington. They have it in 12' sections. They were out of the white insert so I bought that on eBay.
