Tom,
Most people just trim their roof and sides pieces flush and then cap it with some sort of moulding and sealant. There are several mouldings available or you could just use aluminum angle. It has to be "soft" aluminum, or you have to anneal the metal to get it to make the curves.

I personally don't glue my skins on because of the different expansion rate of dissimilar materials. I just hold it on with mouldings.

Tom the moulding that they normally use in the USA is not available here or in Germany.

However you can anneal your own or do as I did use Caravan moulding(kantenleiste) from Dethleff or Kabe Caravans. The caravan dealers (parts department) will sell it. Thats what I did even though it was expensive in Finland. However its imported from Germany to begin with.

The aluminum can first be taped onto the sides to hold it in place also before you add the trim or moulding. Also its better to have someone helping you to hold it in place while doing so.

Tom here is the name of the moulding in German - Kantenleiste 20 x 11mm which you can use on both sides unless you want a tent to be added to the side. Which I am using.It is soft enough to lightly tap it radius and profile with a rubber hammer.

Here is the entire profile list in pdf. Under the profile I installed the rubber moulding which also includes the butyl tape all in one. Works real nicely.

but the next problem i have already!

i talked to the company which delivers aluminium.
i asked for 0,5mm alu and told him what i need it for.

he said, dont use 0,5 thats no good. use 1mm or 0,8mm.

what size do you guys use?

Just to provide the conversions (because I haven't used this):
0.032 inch = 0,8mm
0.040 inch = 1mm

I think the 0.032" (0,8mm) is the most popular thickness quoted on this forum.

thats what i´d use too.
i agree with what the dealer told me.
0,5mm is thin and 1mm is maybe too thick.
0,5mm i could cut with a stanley i guess, but 0,8 i´d have to use the
saw mmmh.

Tom Bitte Schöne Also when you decide to cut the aluminum to profile tape that area to prevent scratching. I also had 1mm aluminum sheets that I found to be way too thick. So I sold them.

I also have an aluminum blade for my jigsaw that I use to cut.
Bosch has the little package that has the blades for this and wood. Several different variety.

Tom here is the so called Abdeckgummi that I have. Which is installed under the kantenleiste.



and the other side has the butyl tape with a plastic foil on top. Do one section at a time with patience in order to get the moulding to sit correctly



With this you will have a good seal with no leakage at all.

today i bought the moulding and all the stuff i need.
i ordered aluminium 8mm!

but i dont know which glue to take.
i was at a caravan dealer and he told me to use the one they take....
hahaha! 29euros each package-i need 10 of em!
300euros just for glue is nuts!

but what about the one you can buy at the hardwarestore?

fin myabe you know what to buy in europe? what did you use?
i search something cheap and reliable!

Noooooo not that for 29 Euro. Go to the nearest place that sells Sikaflex.
Try this website first - http://www.sika.de/

A new product which is also recommended is SikaBond AT Universal. Check and see how much that will cost in Germany. Here in Finland its 11 Euro per tube. Also get a good gun for it since them cheap ones that cost 4 or 5 euro are not good. And I know the prices are cheaper there in Germany.

Look for that and then let me know how you do ok. And you dont need so much since the moulding will also help hold it in place.

Also check out Henkell from Dusseldorf. They also have good glue and adhesives for metals such as aluminum.

so, you wouldnt glue the whole side, just parts?
