...we have been having problems with possums and armadillos, not to mention the bobcat, that keeps stalking my mutant chihuahuas, so I needed something sorta sneaky and deadly to deal with them...I bought http://daisy.com/shopping/customer/prod ... 250&page=1 ...the MSRP was 232USD but Sportsmans Guide had a reman version for 72 bucks + shipping(had a free coupon for that)...it came in last night via UPS and I am impressed...this thing is not JUST a pellet rifle, it's a bonafide weapon, shooting at 1000fps, composite stock and a 3x9 rifle scope...to all the possums and armadillos I say...be skeered...be very skeered

I've been into adult airguns now for some time. Most people just don't "get it." The have in mind the red ryder BB gun they got one Christmas. Many Air rifles are lethal hunters. For game/pests that size(with that air rifle) you'll want it well sighted in and well placed shots for a clean kill and avoid "flesh wounds" and prolonged "suffering." (This is ignoring the prolonged "suffering" they've caused YOU ). Looks like a GAMO -maybe- with Daisy's name on it.

Just bought 2 ReMan. Crosman 1377 MSP (multi-stage-Pumpers) from Midway. Now for Stocks, 14" barrels, Steel breeches, Valve mods, etc to get'em up to speed

Here in Corpus, we can't kill 'em. We can get traps from the city (for a small fee) that we can bait to catch them. When we get one, call the city and they will come pick it up. Here is the goofy part. They have to be alive when they pick them up. The city doesn't pick them up on weekends. Say you catch one on Friday night. You have to feed and water them and keep them in good live condition until pick up. If they die in your possession, you get fined and prosecuted for animal cruelty. If you shoot them or beat them, you get prosecuted for animal cruelty. If you put a dead one in your trash can, they won't pick up your garbage and you are prosecuted for animal cruelty (because they assume you killed it).

Now, I know of no one who has been fined or prosecuted, but the city says they will do it.

Amazingly, they have never questioned me about the number of Possum suicides that take place in the park across from my house. Apparently, the little buggers get depressed and throw themselves in front of cars before crawling off my property to their final resting place. In fact, a couple of them have left little suicide notes (but I have to say, their spelling and penmanship is horrible!).

I might look into that pellet rifle, but I will have to figure out how to explain how they disposed of the weapon after shooting themselves.

I remember back when I got my Benjamin Air Rifle when I was just a young pup. It didn't have a scope but I could plunk birds off a telephone wire with it. The more you pumped it up the more accurate it got. I got a lot of enjoyment out of it. Then at Texas A&M I took an Air Rifle class for P.E. Shooting targets once a week for an hour of credit wasn't bad. Still have the rifle, shot a rat in my garage with it a few years back.



This is my next gun purchase before Obama outlaws them. As an LEO I will always have access to buy one but the prices will skyrocket. A bit overkill for possums though...

I got a Gamo Varmint Hunter when I moved into this house under all the pecan trees. The squirrels need convincing to stay out of the attic. Since it is hard keep the rifle around all the time I have found that the little CO2 powered Walther PPK will put the furry pests in motion with carefully placed near misses, and will fit right in the pocket of my overalls..............

Larwyn....I'm with you...the Walther PPK is a dandy little piece for thumping critters. I know of a number of raccoons at San Luis Obisbo that have sore bottoms because of one. Not a lot of FPS...but still fun! It's hard to keep them away when Joanne is chumming them all night long however!!! Sorry Joanne...had to be said! Doug

I just might have to pick me up one of those. I have a "pest" next door that needs equalized. I just couldn't see spending a lot of money for an air rifle. You wouldn't have a link to that rifle would you with the discount?

Since the Obama Whitehouse is attempting to intrude on several of our rights (2nd amend.) I made the decison to pick up another pistol. I know he's going after the larger rifles, but it was a good excuse to buy it. I also have to take into consideration the Border Drug War going on here locally. It's not as bad as Phoenix with the kidnappings, but one can't wait around to be "next".

At Christmas they killed a guy across the border and cut his head off. They place a Santa Clause hat on his head. Nice picture for the Mexican papers.

I might have to look into a quality air rifle. I have a suppressor for my 22 rimfire guns but it is technically still illegal to fire it in my area which is inside "city limits". With subsonic rounds and the suppressor it is probably more quiet than an air rifle but the bullets as they ring off the steel trap box are a little loud.

Fully legal. Read up on your BATF tax stamp rules and regs. Just need to get the paperwork processed, get finger printed, get your local law enforcement to sign off on the forms, and pay the $200 tax stamp fee.

You can also own a fully automatic firearm, a short barreled rifle, a pistol grip short barreled shotgun, and even a few other toys as long as you process the correct paperwork.

I know I'm English and the closest we come to with guns is a water pistol or a limp wristed catapult combining the uesfulness of a clothes peg and an elastic band, but I've caught rabbits and stuff whilst out camping... isn't it more efficent to catch critters in traps than to shoot them?

I'm not being all namby pamby or anti-gun... spent time with my father using hand guns and rifles (he lives in Canada) but for anything smaller than a pig, a gun seems a bit overkill for the task... unless there are some intelligent rodents who don't fall for snares over there?
