Gas struts for hatch

Anything to do with mechanical, construction etc

Postby Miriam C. » Fri Mar 27, 2009 5:11 pm

Hardware is extra at NAPA and if you use the struts in a way that is visible they won't return them. I bought 120 #ers for my big hatch. If I ever get them done they should get it right.

We measured how heavy by putting a stick where the hatch support was to be and putting the other end on a scale.

Be sure to show your work 8) :D

I mean if they can tell you tried them out. At least that is what the NAPA store here told me. They have plastic ends on mine.

Emiller lovely galley but you might want to flip your gas springs around to increase their lifespan. By placing the cylinder above the rod when opened the shaft get lubricated better.

I did have them that way but I figured it's closed most of the time and when closed they are inverted. They have been on there now since July 2005 and I camp a least once a month year round.

to figure out what size struts to use, you need to know the grunt factor..ie: does it make you grunt like you did when you carried your wife across the threshold, or do you grunt like your hauling a beer keg up the stairs to the ice barrel?
