Hi.
I am Ron and my wife is Margaret. We have done the truck camper and motorhome routine as the family was growing, but now that the family has grown smaller and the gas bill has grown larger we have decided to go with a smaller traveling rig.
We have started to attempt to build a teardrop on a 5' by 8' harbor freight trailer. The trailer frame is together and the floor is done, we are now waiting for the title to return so we can start on the side walls.
I sure have enjoyed this sight and have learned alot by reading it.

Hey Ron and Margaret,
Welcome to the forum. Where abouts in Western Pa are you from. We are in Altoona. TearJerkers are having a Gathering in Cooks Forest State Park in August. If you havent joined the TearJerkers Camping Club yet you should, seems like a bunch of great people. Even if your tear isnt finished just go for the day and check out some great looking Teardrops and pick some brains. Just click on the TearJerkers link in the above heading. If ya have any questions your in the right place.
Enjoy the build,
Bill and Marijo :applause:
Hope to see you on the road.

We live in the town of New Florence, not that far from Altoona. Thanks for the welcome and the invite to the Tearjerkers Club and the gathering. We will see if we can make it to Cooks Forest.

I think it was last year in the spring when I started gettiing the Teardrop bug we went to a Tearjerkers meet at Keystone State Park, met some nice people there and saw some great looking Teardrops.

Margaret and I and our two girls always loved to travel and see the sights, but as the wife talked we thought that we mostly selpt in our truck camper and motorhomes and spent the rest of the time outside, why not go with something smaller and more effeicent than the big rigs. So we were bit the Teardrop bug.

Image to the playground Ron and Margaret.....Building is a great way to get what you want in a td. How old are the girls? Will they need to be inside the td?

Have fun with the plan and get a good camera---you'll want to keep the bubble oil level around here..... :D :pictures: :pictures: :pictures:

Thank you everyone for the nice welcome.
Our girls are 29 and 24 years old, so we are pretty close to being empty nesters.
I do plan to put some pictures of our build on this sight as soon as the youngest daughter has some time to show me how. I am not that great with this computer.

Ron and Margaret,
The wife and I are empty nesters. Its great. Was a little hard for the wife at first but its been several years now and she used to it. Our baby is turning 30 Tuesday. We got 4 girls and a boy. The wife does all this camera and pictures stuff so I know what you mean about computers.
Anxious to see your future pics of your build.
Bill and Marijo
Hope to see you on the road.

Pa title & license what a project!!!!

Postby Ron51 » Tue Sep 29, 2009 2:31 pm

Had the floor built for the TD after sending for title & license. Could not get them with out jumping thru all the hoops. Took the floor off and built the trailer according to the harbor freight instructions, took the trailer to the enhanced Pa inspection station and after 170 dollar fee finally got the title and license. Dismantled trailer put floor back on and now have been working on the sides as time permits. Will try and post pictures.

Ron,
I know what you mean about getting title and license. What a pain in the butt. I look forward to seeing your progress. Hopefully well get to meet at a future gathering. We retire in January and I hope to do some camping in Western Pa as my daughter lives just south of Pittsburgh and we love the area.
Good luck w/ the build,
