Any computer Experts out there??

Postby Micro469 » Sun Apr 05, 2009 9:34 am

I know a fair bit about computers, but this has me kinda stumped. I was watching a Utube video last night (Honest!!), when the video stopped. Not unusual. I clicked back, nothing happened. Closed, it flashed, nothing happened. Tried to shut down, and the start screen would just flash. finally had to do a manual reboot............ now the bios doesn't see my hard drive. Stuck on another hardrive....same thing. The Bios doe not see a harddrive to boot to, and one is not listed in the boot options.

Kinda sounds like my mother board blew a gasket eh?
Any opinion before I go out and spend a lot of money I don't have?

John, I am no expert (but I do live in Brampton as well), depending on your operating system, you can go back a few days in system time, and reboot from there. I suspect that whatever happened wiped out your config file and thus when booting up it can't find out.
Reboot and hold down the ALT key until a window appears which gives you some options (depending on your op system), one being to go back to a previous configuration.
If that does not work, I work with a guy who does all my PC work (although the pc's are for the rest of family, I work just fine on my Mac) and will charge $75-$100 to get everything in order, crap removed etc. As long as it was not a critical failure of the hard drive or motherboard, he can get it working within that price range. I would need to check on this available time. We are over in M section.

John,

A couple things to try - Remove the battery from you MB and try again or replace the battery after 30 secs or so and try again. Also, if your have a reset for the BIOS, try that as some can be reset to factory defaults and with then work as if new.

That would work if I could get to my hardrive, but the motherboard does not even see a hardrive to boot to. All it sees is my floppy drive and my cd....and then gives me a boot failure. As for getting it fixed......I can buy a new motherboard for about the same price...Thanks for the offer.
Welcome to the forum, by the way.
I just decided to run Windows setup on the CD It could not continue because it could not find any hard disks on my computer.Whenever it tried to access a harddrive it would buzz like a fly caught in a window..L.O.L. Both my drives are SATA, If that doesn't work anymore, I'm going to need a new board.....

yep, sounds like your IDE sub-system took a dump., if you have a ATA type drive lying around, try plugging it in to see if the bios sees it. and if you have a usb drive on hand with Knoppix on it, you can boot up and see if the drive shows up.
