Perfect Tow Vehicle for the Roswell

Postby whippeteer » Mon Mar 30, 2009 3:55 pm

I just came across the perfect tow vehicle for the Roswell today. It's called a TASCO and it was a prototype for a car to be built by an aircraft manufacturer that never went beyound this point.

Hello Again.
Hope you are all well.
:)
cant believe march 11th was the last time progress was made on the build.
a bit of bad-back, work commitments & other chores getting in the way.
will i remember which end if the hammer to hold ?
:DOH2:
hopefully there will be lots of progress & piccies this weds, thurs & soon after.
3 lengths of 2"x2"x1/8" mild steel hollow section for the chassis is sitting
there screaming out to be cut & joined.
when the body is clamped to the chassis, the body joints can be welded.
hours of fun there !
putting the camera battery on charge as this is being posted.

best rgds dan.

Hello to you all. :)
thanks for waiting while the build was on hold.
3 hours build time today & 3 hours tidying up beforehand.

finished fitting the floor brackets in the front & rear.
then rolled it right side up again.
couldnt cut the hollow section for the chassis, still alot of stuff in the way of the saw.
so had my sarnie,
Image

& began to weld the roof joints.
Image

trying to make it look pretty cos thats the finished joint.
there will be no linishing here.
Image

its got good penetration on the inside.
there is 3 meters of weld around the roof with another 15 meters to do on the rest !
hope to be on it again tomorrow.
as allways your comments are welcome.

best rgds dan.

Your progress looks great.

Please pass on any tips you have on welding aluminum. I'm just starting with a TIG welder and would appreciate (as would countless others) any insight you can provide as you obviously know what you are doing. Any shortcuts, tips or tricks to relate?
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Just when you think a problem is solved, an uglier result replaces it.
