door placement

Have searched through archives and stickies bu cannot find information on WHERE to place the side doors.

I am thinking about a 32" wide door and 38" high.

My best guess is the midpoint being 40" from the head of the bed as this would place it about at my waist, thereby making it easier to get in and out.

Any rules of thumb or suggestions??

...sounds pretty good, Will. Start the door about 2"s off of the floor or no more than half the thickness of the mattress to keep the door sill from cutting into your legs while entering/exiting and just sitting...I think my doors are about that 32w X 38tall size...your thoughts about front/back placement is pretty well on the money...you want to be able to sit on the bed, lay down/over without bumping your head and then swing your legs in.....

it's obviously got to be forward of the galley shelf and rear fender. If you have a stout frame then there isn't too much practical limitation on the size.

My doorway frame is this high off the floor in this photo of my doorway "seats". The wood is 2 X 8 lumber so the actual height is maybe 5 1/4. At this height the door frame did cut into our legs quite a bit getting in and out of our Little Guy trailer. The mattress is 4" foam and compresses to almost nothing so I made two of these. They are level with the door frame and with the mattress on top make it comfortable sitting in the doorway or getting in or out. Our trailer is extra wide so the seats do not take up too much room. But I agree with Madjack's recommendation to make the doorways lower than this.
