Hello

Hi, I just found this site a few days ago and jumped right in without intro, sorry about that, I have been quite deep in alligators for the last couple of weeks. I have already had much help in finding plans for the Winter Warrior, thanks to those that responded, but now that I have seen the complexity I think I will go back to my original plan for my first build. I plan on building a narrow trailer to pull behind my Volvo wagon and want to be able to see past it with stock mirrors. I plan on having a slide out galley that will extend 4 ft from the right side at the rear and a 5 ft x 2 ft slide out on the left side for our feet so that we can sleep crossways in a 5 ft wide trailer. I will adapt a tent or some sort of easy up to attach to the right side over the galley and door to extend the living area and provide shelter during inclement weather. I also plan to incorporate framing in the roof that will accomodate a pop up roof at a later date. Sounds pretty ambitious I know but I have a lot of experience building trailers and I built an 8 ft truck camper about 30 years ago so I am looking forward to building this unit. I plan on posting some pictures once I get underway.

Image to the playground Wallydog. Your plan sounds great. It doesn't sound easier to me than the WW. I am looking forward to the :pictures: :pictures: :pictures:

Wallydog, welcome to the forum. Looks like you have an ambitious build on your plate. Am anxiously waiting to see pics of how it all goes together. Great that you are thinking out of the box. I am interested in finding out what you have in mind to keep the slideouts from leaking when it rains. Keep in touch, take pics and post 'em

Hi Wally,

Welcome to the forum.

The Winter Warrior is not that hard. But you have to follow the plans.

But whatever you decide, have fun, and take lots of pictures!

Welcome to the forum agin Wallydog.

What you have planned sounds alot harder than the Winter Warrior but go for it. that's what this is about building the trailer of your dreams than getting out and camping with a bunch of great people and showing it off.

Hey Wally I finally found the post I was looking for. This is the only tear I seen with a slide out and works pretty good. Charles says the the next one will be powered because his wife can't pull it out by her self but you can check out the pics in his album and get an idea what your up against.

Pull outs

Postby wallydog » Thu Apr 23, 2009 11:38 am

Well, famous last words but I think I have the seals and slides figured out but I don't have any actual plans yet for the slide detail. I plan on using nesting rectangular tube and ball bearing rollers for the slide so it should pull pretty easy. The outside tube will be structurally welded into the trialer frame. The slide portion will be covered with the same siding as the trailer with really good quality gaskets that will seal on each end of the slide. I also plan on using UHMW plastic runners inside for the floor to slide on so this should lessen the friction when sliding.
