Another Newbie

Greeting from the Land of Lincoln,

I have been "lurking" here for a while, and finally decided to dive in. A little about me and what brought me here:

I'm 44 y.o. and have been a camper and outdoorsman all my life, but have always been frustraed by the amount of time it took to load up and get dirt on my boots. Even as a ScoutMaster I was never happy with our Patrol and Troop boxes, they were heavy and impracticle from the standpoint of being simple to setup and start cooking. So I started to search the web for a better way. Googled compact trailers and JackPot!

Although what I am building is not A TD or TTT it is inspired from many of you. It is what I call a "pup tear" or more accurately a pack mule.

Original design criteria:
1) Compact enough to fit on a utility trailer and hold a four wheeler.
2) Multi-tasking: Camp, Fish, Hunt
3) Have a deployable galley that with little effort was ready for business.
4) Storage for gear, (yeah, I still tent camp, but the older I get the more creature comforts I want)
5) Special compartments for Bow, Rifle/Shotgun.
6) Possible kennel for Dog - hence "pup tear".

I know, I know, I ask a lot from a small package! This is where a lot of your folks designs have aided me. I'm new to this posting stuff so please be patient with me as I figure this out. I am going to try to post my concept design from Sketch-up to give you an idea what I am building, I'll try build pics later. OOOkay, I just lost my model!

Welcome DS. :)

It sounds like you want a galley on wheels. That sounds cool I have seen something like that here some where, but unfortunately I can't remember where. Hopefully some one else can remember. Have fun and remember take lots of pictures cause that make Auntie M happy.

Nice idea.

When planning where to put the dog kennel i would place it as close to the mid point between the trailer axle and hitch as possible. That is the smoothest riding place on the trailer.

 So first question: how big is the quad? Do I have it right, you are going to haul the quad and a bunch of stuff to the fishing hole or deer stand?

First thing----ditch the tent. You will not regret it........

Second---do you really want to haul all that stuff out and pack it all back? :R

You can make a teardrop toy hauler and have it all. 8) Including a great big
Image to the playground.

OK, Ds, you have come to the right place to get advice and answers. All we ask is sketches of your proposed design, progress pictures as your build continues and a ton of questions so we can feel important and give you the best advice we can think of. Good luck on your build.

Mirriam,

The Quad is a Yamaha Rhino s x s, the pack mule is to act as A base camp when hunting or fishing.

Ditching the tent for me is a tough leap. I didn't start using that until I was in my 30's, before that it was a bed roll.

TD Toy Hauler, hmmmm!
