115 Volt Wiring help needed.

Postby madprinter » Sat Apr 25, 2009 8:38 pm

I just finished the Exterior of my oversized TD. I dont have a Galley hatch and plan to have a microwave and small Refrigerater inside. I also have a 115 Volt ac mounted on the tongue. How should I connect all these outlets to hook up at the campgrounds? I can do simple house wiring , but definately need help with this one. Thanks. William

William when you put in 120v AC you are doing regular house wiring. Check here for some pictures of how others have done it.

...sounds like you need an AC distribution system...an inexpensive, small(4 to 8 ) breaker box can be had from any of the box stores...wire this for a 12 ga. extension cord to the shore power so it becomes your main inlet for 120vac...add breakers as needed and run your AC circuits to the appropriate breakers in the box...another option is to buy one or two 6 outlet strips with breakers/GFIC built into them...wire them to take input from that same 12ga extension cord to shore power...run your assorted 120vac circuits to the strips and just plug 'em in...one of the most important things is to remember to have a GFIC setup somewhere in the upstream section of the system......

Keep in mind you will need a special 30 amp plug for most shore power outlets, or you can but an adapter that converts the extention cord to fit the shore power box.
If it itches. scratch it
