I've been looking TD's for awhile and finally broke down and got one. Just picked it up yesterday and it was quite an adventure.
The receiver just barely fit on the hitch. Turns out when I had the ball installed, the folks put it on upside down.. We tried for about a half hour to get the durn thing loose without any success. Finally decided to hook it up and get the hitch fixed at the first place I found. The receiver was secure on the hitch but the flange on the receiver stuck out about a sixteenth of an inch too far and was grinding against another part.
After a nerveous twenty miles I found an open truck repair shop. Explained my problem, handed over the hitch and figured I'd be on the road in no time. No such luck, the mechanic came back out with the hitch in hand and the ball still attached. He was able to remove the nut about half before the chrome galled the threads, now it was stuck fast.
"No worries", the mechanic assured me, "I'll just order a new one for you, should have you back on the road soon" Twenty minutes later he comes back out, seems the parts supplier was out of the 1 7/8 inch balls.
Super... now what...
To make a long story short, the mechanic had a used ball setting in the back. He was able to cut the dorked up off and attach the used one. Made it back home without any other problems, thank goodness!
Built in 2006 on a Harbour Freight chassis, gently used. I'm now it's third owner and I can't wait to start putting in my modifications, have all kinds of things in mind. Solar power, 12 VDC swamp cooler, LED lighting and so one.
Thanks for taking a peak at my little jem in the rough!
