I like your galley. Could you tell me more about your sink set-up, and maybe hit me up with a pic from a different angle?

The trailer looks great. You have given me some good ideas for mine. I am going to pick my 6 x 10 up next Saturday.

Gee, thanks for all the kind words. Pretty much everything I have done is either a direct copy or variation of something I saw on this website. Members of this website also helped me locate hard to find items.

I was not trying to make a miniture travel trailer. I was going for more of a glorified tent type solution to handle my camping needs.

Cathy Jo here are the galley pics you asked about. My water jug is 3 gallons and I have a couple of 5 gallon containers that I can use to refill when I go places that do not have water. I like the way my stove folds up. It is very convienent.

If it were me, I'd change out that side door locking mechanism - if you had friends like mine - they'd lock you inside and laugh at you before they let you out

Actually I do have friends like yours! I know if my friend had a door like this I would do the same. That is why I made it so I can lock the latch open on the outside. Someday I probably will upgrade the lock system though.

Thanks for explaining about the water. I don't know that I want to take that much space away from my galley, though, and we don't camp off the grid. Well, I would, but if I want John to be with me there's got to be water and electricity (and cable).

I also like what you did with your door locking mechanism. We just lock the latch on the door.

Locking the door open

Postby drcurran » Sat Apr 25, 2009 7:19 pm

Hey Steve B -
Great job. Can you post a close up of the "device" you came up with to lock the lock open. I want to do that on mine. I've got a couple of ideas, but I'm looking for other options. Thanks

Steve,
An awesome job on your trailer. Now you and your son can begin making memories of a lifetime. You must be very satisfied with your custom trailer.

Dan, here are the "device" pics. It is a eye bolt through the steel wall stud. I figured that if ever decided go with a rv door set up, the damage from this would not be too bad to repair. Dan, looking at this pic, I noticed that I forgot to finish sealing to keep out water!

Steve ( there are a ton of Steve's here), I totally agree. Making memories and enjoying nature, it does not get much better than that. SteveB

Nice touch topping an already nice build. I wouldn't remove the screw eye if you switched to an rv door. To usefull a place to hang stuff.

Thanks Steve -
It took me about 10 min. to come up with the same thing you have. Looks like it will work very well. Would post a pic, but I can't remember how to post
BTW - is there such a thing as metric size torx screws / bolts? To take out a torx self drilling screw (factory installed) I had to cut a slot and use a flat blade screw driver. None of my torx "heads" would fit. Thanks

Dan, yes there are metric torx screws. There are also other heads that look like torx. Maybe you do not really have torx screws? I have one of those little combo sets. Unless the screw had a head that was too large or too small, it has always worked for me.

I likethe Eye bolt idea. My brother will be using my build more than I willbecause i do have my 27 foot camp trailer. He has been woried about me locking him in as a joke. I will use my build down along the border alot and we do get border crossers through our camp at night. They will stop and ask for food or water. We have had a few confrontations from more agresive crossers as well. I have fears of being locked in down there. So this will help me rest easy. If you ever remove it o would just fill the hole with a good caulking and then put a regular bolt in the hole it wioll just look like it was made that way. But like said above i would just remove it and caulk the hole and put the eye bolt back in. It will have many uses for camping anyways. I will copy your idea on tuesday. I have a few eye bolts in my shop just waiting for a good thing to be used for. I am going to out one on the back door as well just for the heck of it. :applause:
