Plan it and they will come. At least that’s what I am hoping for.
Magnolia chapter of Tearjerkers is hosting their second camping weekend. I do believe that it is unique in the fact that it may be the first ever Teardrop and Tiny Travel Trailer gathering to be held on the grounds of a commercial airport.
The location is the Mid Delta Regional Airport near Greenville, MS.
The dates are from Friday June 26 through Sunday June 28, 2009.
At one time in it’s history; Mid Delta Regional Airport was Greenville Army Air Field military base and comprises over 2000 acres, so there is plenty of room to host a gathering. Working hand in hand with the airport manager, several possible locations on the property have been identified as suitable for our needs, the primary being a grassy field with easy access. This campout will be considered as “no hookups”. The airport crew will tap some fire hydrants so that we will have water available. There will be very limited electrical connections available; but I would like to maintain these for those who absolutely have to have them (i.e. medical reasons). Rest room facilities will most likely be port-a-johns. No shower facilities at this time; but they may be made available on a limited basis depending on the number of attendees and it would be a fair walking distance. Also, if the weather does not co-operate, we can move the whole gathering into open hangar space on the facility and have an indoor camp out.
Things to do and see near the airport:
The same weekend is the Delta County Fair and Hot Air Balloon Festival about 5 miles distant. For those interested in volunteering to help crew the launches, you could quite possibly end up with a ride in a balloon. There is also a carnival and live music planned for this Festival. We can get you in contact with the appropriate people concerning volunteering.
The birthplace of Jim Henson’s Kermit the Frog is in nearby Greenville. Mr. Henson grew up playing along the banks of Deer Creek which borders the airport. There are also numerous museums, Winterville Indian mounds and more around the area for those who like to explore. Information for these can be found at
