Anyone finding any Morels

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

Our married kids (still living in a travel trailer in the driveway) have been bringing some in. My son finds them, cooks them, and then gives them to his wife and dad. Doesn't like to eat them. For him, the thrill is in the hunt!

Morels are great eating but I've never gone "hunting". At last year's May gathering in Brown County, Indiana, there was a group selling morels from a cart in the parking lot of a grocery store.

They were "on sale" for $35/pound if I remember correctly. I know they're good but I still needed gas to get home.

Damn, I went out this morning and didn't get squat!! I'm going out again tomorrow and see if I can use my Indian powers to stir the little bastards up!!

The place I was hunting had me wondering if I would find mushrooms, a meth lab, or a dead body.........

Lots of deer sign there so I might put up a tree stand and try bowhunting there in the Fall.

Should be getting thick in about a week. :worship:

Waiting for "someday" will leave you on your deathbed wondering why you didn't just rearrange your priorities and enjoy the time you had, instead of waiting for a "better" time to come along...

I went after work tonight and found 5 small ones. They were just about stood all the way up but I clipped them anyway. Got home and found three ticks (so far)......... Picked up a pork roast and cooked it on the grill, fried the 'shrooms and downed it with some PBR!!!!!!

I'll try and get out some more this weekend..........

Morel hunting

Postby queeniejeanne » Tue Apr 28, 2009 2:04 pm

We have a super secret place. Here, if they have a place they won't tell, even your kin won't give it up.
we found enough for a good batch three weeks ago. then fried them up. Egg/milk wash, then flour, then into a little hot peanut oil then a sprinkle of sea salt just out of the grease....god my mouth is watering....who was selling those for 35 a pound, I'll take two pounds. Last year we had many, many more and I did a morel risotto that was heaven sent. queenie jeanne
HEY a tiny trailer. Whatever it takes.
