Wow! I can't believe I've finally registered!! I have to admit that I have have been lurking behind the scenes for quite a while. I have been enthralled by teardrops since I found you all, and I've driven my family and friends crazy!
I am a lifelong camper that is starting to want a few more creature comforts when out in nature. Went the air mattress route, but woke up in a deflated pile of plastic too many times.(':o') My kids could care less, so they still get the tent. My husband and I are officially upgrading!
I think my husband realized I was serious about building this when I asked for two sheets of 4 x 8 blue foam insulation for my birthday in March. Huh? I just had to cut out a couple of profiles, arrange them around a mattress and see how it all felt (having never seen a real live teardrop!)!



Well, it felt great, and the build is on!

Can't wait to ask you guys all of my questions! I'm very excited to be here.

Welcome to the forum. Once you get the teardrop started you can give the foam mockup to you child to use as a playhouse. lol!

You go girl! The first step is the hardest, you have gotten through that. There are so many great builders in your area who will help when asked. Go ask for help, or at a least ask to see and feel their teardrops. Your profile looked very comfy.

THINK no weight, build lite, you will be surprised at how strong the finished product will be. You have a great frame, you might have to move the axle back some but after that, you will be on the sawdust road.

Go to a couple gatherings, you think the people here are nice, you need to meet them in real life, they are even nicer.

Welcome! A lot of us ended up here for the same reason. Getting too old and creaky to sleep on the ground in a tent. We just had our first trip, and laying in bed that first night I couldn't get the grin off my face! What a treat to have a real bed and a real kitchen without the hassle and expense of a big RV!

Laurie My wife thought I was crazy,now we have a HF frame and base built and she has slowly embraced the idea as I slowly build

Ps I don't think there is a 12 step program for teardrop builders
so moderation is key

Got the teardrop profile, the tongue box profile, a frame and a helper. What more could a teardrop builder want?

Welcome and DEFINITELY , don't be shy and find one of the folks in your area to take a look see at a real teardrop . Pick up the hitch,sit inside, lay down , and pull up the hatch ... all by yourself ... and ask questions!
