ANDREW (ET AL): I NEED A COAT CLOSET IN MINE! HELP!

Postby xe1ufo » Sat Sep 03, 2005 2:07 am

Dear friends:

For many reasons, I am going for a 4 by 10 design. (My bride and I still fit in less than a full size bed just fine.) I want 7-foot of bedroom, 2 feet of galley and 1 foot of closet.

I need a way to hang up a couple of Sunday-go-to-meeting suits in my Teardrop design. Please tell me what you think of this crazy idea:

Many have rounded (true Teardrop-shaped) fronts, and then add a storage pod of some sort on the tongue. What if at the headboard between the chasis frame rails I have a flat closet where I can hang maybe two suits and a couple of shirts (flat up against the front wall, if you get my drift). Though the outside profile of the trailer would look rounded-Tear shape, this section would be straight down to below the floor level, inside the alleged storage pod, allowing a suit to hang there. And then I am thinking if it would be a waterproofing problem?

Or any other closet ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Steve, I think you're absolutely right - the profile of a teardrop we 'see' is the shape of the outer six inches or so - what shape the middle bit is doesn't matter too much, providing it's not too different. So I think your idea should work just fine. I think the pictures of the Great Western trailer that Shrug has posted or the many pictures of (regular) Camp-Inns confirm this.

Steve... The Kuffle Creek Comet has a closet in the nose. After all, who said a closet has to be square? I'm about at that stage and I'm trying to figure how to add a sideways rolling door for mine. the other side will be a tilt out clothes hamper.

The LuxoTear has a closet in the front, it works fine for a couple of jackets, suit and a dress or two. Here are a couple of photos. The closet is on the right, the bin on the left is used as a hamper for shoes and dirty clothes.

My first was a Kuffle Creek Comet. You could probably add a forward closet to any profile that has a rounded front. If the profile has a fuller bilge in the front, all the better. Actually, I added a couple of inches to that curve to get a deeper closet. Mine is about 10" deep. Just add a wall to create the closet. You could get a closet that's 6 to 10 inches at it's deepest point.
Here's a shot of that cabinet, built as a bulkhead.

Add some doors and coat hooks..

Ditto on the closet idea on the Comet...I've got one in mine and can hang shirts..except they tend to hit the bottom floor...I could have mounted the rod up a little higher...and probably will on the next one....Doug

Our closet it 36 inches tall. It is 12 inches deep at the peak of the front curve, 4 inches deep at the top and bottom. More dimensions can be found on our plans page. Click on any image for a larger view.
