Progress....but not much.

I'm still poking around on the trailer but life just keeps getting in the way. This week I took some time and mocked up a side out of scaps of wood. It will be the pattern for my sides when I make them for real. It really helps to be able to see real wood on the frame. I can start to think about the interior layout.
At this rate it should be done in a couple of years.

No, this is just a mock up is just to get a good feel for size and profile before I actually decide on a final design. I'm in uncharted territory with no experience.....the only plans I have are in my head.

The openings are just space where I didn't put wood...not where windows or doors will be. I'll be using some old windows I salvaged out of a '40s era deercamp trailer I found rotting in the woods.

Since my CAD skills are nonexistant, it helps me to actually have something like this to work with...the same as some people have done with cardboard. My frame is stepped up over the axle and I have a dropped floor with an inside galley so I've got some unique situations to deal with, such as mounting the body to the frame, under frame storage, etc. With this cobbled up wood side I can actually sit and lay in places to try different floor plans and storage locations. I have a pretty good imagination.

Hey George....progress is progress...how do you eat an elephant? one bite at a time...It'll all come together for you....I know what you have for a shop and what kind of work you can do...via "outta control shop" thread....don't sweat the timeline...just turn out your effort....People will see the effort and quality. Let the results speak for themselves....Doug.... PS maybe I missed it, what are you using for fenders...cool

They're 39 Chevy fenders that I had to cut down to mount flush on the body. The wheel is half inside and half outside of the side so I needed a thin fender. The Chevy fenders shape works with my profile I think. They'll give it a little different look.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Doug. I'm not too worried about when the trailer gets done. I just like building things. It's a hobby and I don't like to make any deadlines. I've got a few ongoing projects so I putz around on one for a while then move on to something else when I feel like it. Right now I'm pretty much still in the planning stages on the trailer but I think I'll have the sides done by winter. They're going to be laminated around the perimeter so I've had to make a jig on the wall similar to what Maxitear Jerry did.
