I took the name "tearhead" because for the last two weeks both my husband and I have become totally obsessed with teardrops. It started when we visited a nifty little auto museum in Hartford, Wisconsin, which had a vintage really little teardrop and as we walked by we thought, "Hm, that's just the kind of thing we'd do." And then later on, my husband saw a tear being towed and brought the subject up seriously. Since then we've been searching online and trying to figure out whether to buy or build. Tears seem scarce as hen's teeth in southeast Wisconsin, but we've been checking Craigslist in Chicago, Milwaukee, and Janesville. Yesterday we lost an ebay auction on a really sweet trailer. Somebody else got the deal! We could build one. My husband is very handy (farm boy). But we want to get camping! Did tent camping for years with our three kids, then discovered that hotels are pretty darn comfortable (discovered that on "the circle tour" around Lake Superior, which would be great in a tear) and have mostly been doing European travel. But we got a new little tent a couple of years ago and started camping again. We're just not wild about sleeping on the ground, and don't want some huge rig. Looking to buy or build a 5 foot wide with 12 volt fittings and don't need a TV, microwave, etc. The hunt is fun though! And this website is absolutely amazing! I just found the alphabetical listing yesterday and realized that reading that will probably keep me busy until fall! You guys have a good thing going, and I'm happy to have found you!

Just be prepared for showing the little bugger off every time you stop for gas or food.

They're very nice, and make very drool-worthy trailers. If you've got the budget, you can't go wrong with one of theirs.

As you probably know, there is no cure for the addiction. Building your tear aleviates the symptoms somewhat so you better get to making sawdust!

My husband's also addicted. I think we need a 12 step program. The fact that I needed an "eye opener" this morning is a dead giveaway. (That's when I posted my message--and now I'm taking a short break and look where I am!) Anyway, my husband was very impressed with their trailers, which he says are top of the line, and the fit and finish is unbelievable. Pricy, though.

We know what you mean, you kinda get obsessed. All our friends were tired of hearing about all our plans to buld. We got alot of "Yea sure your gonna build one". Ha and boy when we actually did everyone was impressed. They couldnt believe it. Everyone thinks its so cool. We love our little "Sponge".
Yep thats her name. Well whatever you decide on, building or buying your going to have fun.

We're accustomed to being rained on when camping (which is part of the motivation for buying/building a tear)--so a sponge calls forth a certain dampening of enthusiasm at this moment. I hope your tear is dry inside, Bill and Marijo! Or at least only requires an occasional towel. A small towel.

Ha you took the meaning of "The Sponge"s name wrong. My husband felt since he was building her he had the right to name her. He named her that because she kept sucking us dry of cash as we were building her. I didnt like it at first but now it has stuck.

The wife had plans she bought off of E-Bay. It said you could build a Teardrop for $750. So I figure okay what the heck. Man where those plans cheesy. I threw them out and made my own plans. Thats how it all started. I was hooked. And she knows how I am. Said she knew Id pitch those plans, said it was a small investment to get the Teardrop she knew Id build.
After 32 years I guess she knows me.

Well, I've never meet a set of plans that I didn't modify myself. I always see something that can be improved. I bought Steve Fredrick's plans and used some of his ideas and some of my own. It was a nice guide though. Cindi asked me yesterday how much it has cost so far. I really had no idea. I have a stack of receipts a foot high but I'm afraid to add them up. We blew past the $750 mark with just the trailer.
