Found this one on another forum... fun tear!

Not sure where that cigar is sticked!

Image

This is Kinky Friedman's tear.. not sure who he is but visit http://kinkyfriedman.com/ to figure it out...

From his site...

"Soon to roll down the lost highway: a fuchsia teardrop trailer wearing a 10-foot-long cowboy hat and smoking a cigar. It will be a mobile kiosk - stuffed with T-shirts, bumper stickers and other swag - slated to cover more than 50,000 miles of Texas’s nooks and crannies during the next 17 months. It’s "It," the writer and musician Kinky Friedman’s conduit to the "little fellers" in his quest to become the first independent governor of Texas since Sam Houston. "

Somehow all this got me to the book 'The Devil's Teardrop'... see

Didn't know the devil has a teardrop... does god??

That's OK, I live here and didn't know who he was until he decided to run for office. I had to ask some of the "Natives" at work. Here is something I pulled from the New Yorker website :

Here are a few lessons from modern American music. First, he not busy being born is busy dying. Second, you can't hang a man for killing a woman who is trying to steal your horse. And, third, you come to see what you want to see; you come to see, but you never come to know.

These are good lessons. Bob Dylan provided the first, Willie Nelson the second. The third belongs to Kinky Friedman, who, in the nineteen-seventies, travelled around the country with his country-and-Western band—Kinky Friedman and the Texas Jewboys—annoying audiences with a series of goading, satirical songs with titles like “They Ain't Makin' Jews Like Jesus Anymore” and “Asshole from El Paso.” In the eighties, after the band broke up, Kinky reinvented himself as a mystery novelist. In the past twenty years, he has written seventeen mysteries starring a detective named Kinky Friedman—a Jewish cowboy from Texas who has quit a singing career for a life of sleuthing and one-liners in New York City. Today, Dylan and Nelson, whose onstage thrones in the great concert hall of musical divinity were installed decades ago, seem to intend to ride their tour buses forever. Kinky, who never learned to sit still much, has grown tired of his second career—this year, at the age of sixty, he announced that his most recent mystery will be his last—and has sought out a third. He intends to be the governor of Texas.

Just a literary note, his mysteries are worth reading too. I've heard him on NPR and he's very funny too.

60 Minutes did a piece on him a short time back. He was also very well-known in the New York clubs, in the 70s. He was basically a goofy performer who wrote comical "kind of" country and western songs.

A Jewish guy doing nutty country music in New York City--now that's wrong on ALL levels.

So now he wants to be Governor--with only one door on his tear? No offense to other one-doorers here, but no way.

Like he would be such a stretch after our present and last governors.

Come on, Arnold in CA, Hillary in NY. We want complete the trifecta with our yay-hoo down here too. He will definitely make the race entertaining.

Sure, you all see the cigar and the stetson and the pink paint. And then all you want to do is talk politics.

Me, I'm looking at the 3" angle used to make the tongue on that teardrop. As the coupler is a welded-in 50 deg type, I wonder if the tongue is a new one, as 3" seems awfully big for a trailer back then.......

Are you getting an idea of how sad it is to be me? :(

HAHHH!!!! You're right--I really don't know the guy at all.

And Andrew, our lives can be way sadder than yours:

That's why we DO talk politics.

The coupler looks like a Bulldog brand. Not sure how long they have been making them, but a great HEAVY DUTY coupler. After bending several couplers on my car trailers, I installed a Bulldog, and haven't had any trouble since. Unfortunatly they are about $50.

Saw an article about Kinky's teardrop (actually, his hat) in today's Austin American Statesman and when I googled the trailer, this thread came up (of course). Kinky is an interesting guy. He's a novelist/writer of murder mysteries, columnist, humorist, musician, politician, animal lover (cats and dogs) and all around character. A new Texas state legislative cycle began this month and I sincerely wish he was our governor. It would make politics so much more fun.

He's still touring at age 70 and has a tour coming up in Germany.

Recently (2013), he helped with a Billy Bob Thornton book that I'll have to listen to: The Billy Bob Tapes: A Cave Full of Ghosts

Well yes, he wrote country and western songs that were true country and western songs and satire of country and western songs at the same time, and also included social commentary in the lyrics. Our Kinky is no slouch. The lyrics to Get Your Biscuits in the Oven and Your Buns in the Bed comes to mind.

Which is what made it so right for Kinky. :)

Have all of Kinky's albums and several bootlegs, love that guy

Two of the weirdest concerts I have ever seen:
Frank Zappa performing with Pink Floyd in Germany
Kinky and band in Sweden
2015 T@G Max
2015 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport 4 Door Short Bed

Why Kinky wasn't elected or played much on the top 40 stations, perhaps.....
