My son and I built a teardrop 4 years ago and had a great time. I purchased a couple foldup bikes from redelmoutfitters, they also have folding canoes. It sure makes traveling compact alot easier now. Hope to see you in Minden NE. for the gathering.

What type of folding bike did you purchase?

I bought a couple of folding bikes for our teardrop. Folding bikes and teardrops do work well together. :thumbsup:

I purchased a Montague for myself and SwissBike for my wife, they are both full size bikes and take less than a minute to fold-up. You can check them out at redelmoutfitters.com I purchased both through them. I just checked their site and see they are giving a free tent away with the purchase of their swissbikes, I guess I missed out on that.

While my main road ride is a LWB recumbent, I found an old Raleigh folder a few years ago and built myself a pretty sweet ride; replacing everything except the frame and the rear fender. It weights under 50 pounds and fits into an airline legal suitcase when disassembled.

Here's the same bike coming out of the suitcase. It takes about an hour to disassemble it and a bit more than that to put it back together.

I have a older Dahon 7 speed Boardwalk I use at work. I used to take it camping and probably should take it, rides great. I now prefer my cruiser bike.

While on the subject of folding bikes, and have not compared these closely yet, but it seems there are inexpensive folding bikes, and expensive bikes. The first one is $669. from REI. The second photo from Camping World for $159. Can anyone comment on the cheaper bikes? Are the more expensive bikes worth paying more?

NOT cheap! I found one demo on EBay, the second I bought new.

I just did a quick search and found this one ($460).
That is a very good price for this bike. Most places sell this bike for $699.

These bikes fold up very small. Mine came with a carrying bag and a suitcase that the bike fits in.

They cost a lot but we love them. Good quality construction and ride well for a bike with small wheels.
They get a lot of attention as well......kind of like teardrops.

So far no one has mentioned old, used, cheap folding bikes. I have two. You guys are talking about paying more for a bicycle than it cost me to build the Crocodile Tear trailer!

Around 1975 Royce Union brought out a 20" folding bike with a 3-speed rear hub. It folds quickly, is bulletproof, rides easily, and I use it as primary transportation around the airport. With a basket on the back it's very practical. Fits well in back of pickup truck or in trunk. Get one!

Second bike is a "TITAN" that I think was built in Philippines. It is one-speed, small wheels, folds quickly, and is geared so low that it's easier to walk. Whoever named this bike the TITAN had delusions of grandeur. I got it for $25 at a garage sale and paid too much. Not recommended.
