The woodshop teacher is Larry Boehme. This is his 15th tear build. He's got two and have years of nearly full time work into this creation. The tear weighs in at 3000 lbs with all the gadgets, compressor and generator it takes to make the thing work.

His workmanship is unsurpassed, his planning and execution amazing. The woodwork is outstanding and the gadgets are, well, just over the top fun.

16th Annual Dam Tear Gathering at Shasta

Postby vintagetrailergal59 » Sun May 03, 2009 5:24 pm

Yes, that was the gentleman's name. Thank you for the details about his teardrop. Wow, 3000 lbs, that's more than our 57 Cardinal with all the doo dad decor inside! I don't know who won the awards since we only went up for part of the day on Friday...the rain starting really coming down when we opted to leave....I am hoping that someone who attended the rally will fill us in with further details. The other trailer that I really fell in love with was the yellow and green custom teardrop that Doug Hodder built. The detail and workmanship in that trailer was really something, with the trolley top, portholes, deco woodworking details, and of course the metal striped window awnings. I liked the old Plymouth hood ornament mounted on the roof. First class all the way! Of course all of the teardrops were an inspiration...our teardrop is still in the restoration stage.
There's no place like home, unless it's in your vintage trailer!

Thank you, robfisher! I was in a hurry when I last posted in this thread... and I missed that chance to pay compliment to the amazing amount of work and the craftsmanship in every detail of Mr. Boehme's teardrop!

I cannot WAIT to see any of Mr. Boehme's or Mr. Hodder's trailers in person, up close and personal.
Those two men are the teardrop Michelangelo and Da Vinci of our time.

Looking forward to seeing more pics!

I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to camp 1 site away from Larry....and Larry if you are reading this...I am truly humbled, your attention to detail and finish is something that I aspire to as well as your cutting edge ideas. I really wish you were my shop teacher in high school! He has really gone over the edge in his build, there is no bar to reach anymore! Every detail was done to perfection, you name it and it was air actuated. I was glad that I could bake a pie for you and your wife and share some eats with you both. Classy build and wonderful people......Doug

Thanks for the pics!

I forgot to ask, those TDer's who have outdoor rugs under their tears. Where d you get them? Are they nylon? What's the approximate price I should expect to pay?

Thanks for the pictures. I did not get a chance to see some of the teardrops. A really good slide show. Next year, I plan to have a beer at the BassHole.

[quote="Miriam C."]:o Can anyone explain this to me. Like in detail please :worship:

Miriam when it is folded up it looks like a continental kit (Lincoln) on the back of the tear. The wood work was fantastic.
He had a button to open everything. the only thing I saw sitting on a counter was a coffeepot.

I was not there but I am familiar with those mats. You can find them at Camping World and other RV stores. You can find them at any dog show you can locate. I do not recall the orices but they came in many different sizes.

8) Thanks for posting the photos...I was busy going around announcing alternate plans for the rain out of the potluck so I did get to see a lot of TD's and campsites, but did not take photos. IT WAS A GREAT BATCH of rugged individuals who stuck it out! Thanks to Grant and Lisa for hunkering down in the wet weather to provide us with an opportunity to gather for the 16th Dam get together.

For the record, Larry Boehme did get the Campers' Choice award ... as well as the Brightest Idea award (or, in his case, Brightest Ideas ...!) ...!

Doug got Camper's Choice Runner Up ... and Ken & Jan(?) Fincher took home the Longest Trail plaque for traveling all the way from Las Vegas (about 50 miles further than several folks from WA). Due to the rain and the washed-out campfire festivities, there was no Surprise Challenge this year ... well, on second thought ... ... the real surprise challenge this year was having to put up with 6" of record rainfall from noon on Friday 'til 6:00 AM Sunday morning! Anyone & Everyone who put up with any or all of that are Winners in our book ... ...!

By the way ... for all of you that got such a kick out of the Basshole's name & logo, you should have seen the original! The word "BASSHOLE" was in the shape of a fish, with the "B" at the mouth (closed) and the "E" as the tail ... the "B" was so small, you could hardly see it (but, it was there!), and that left, well ... you know ... ...! I've still got a bumper sticker 'round here somewhere, and when I find it, it'll go on the TD ...

Thanks, everyone for posting pics! There's so much that I didn't see ...

CHEERS!

Thanks to everyone for sharing their pictures of the event...It kind of reminds me of a "team building" event we had at work one time on Catalina Island. A 10 hour hike around the island in the pouring rain with only trash bags for rain gear. During the course of the event someone came up with a very appropriate phrase that has stayed with me all these years. Always remember

"Adversity is our Friend" and no matter what happens you will always have a good time
