starting project thisweekend hopefully

hey guys and gals starting the project this weekend hopefully, so the first thing would have to be the frame, and my question was i've been thinking of a 5ft wide by 8ft long tear, my question would i need to fabricate this trailer out of box or c channel with ribs running across the inside of the trailer and also which axle would be best for this set up?????

since we're talking about the frame and axle the style of wheels and tires i would like to run would be like a widewhite wall like an remington or something along this nature, with the steelies.... was wondering if anyone knew of a place to get these wheels and tires cheaper than coker???

I think you should use whatever is cheaper for the frame material. Boxed, or square tubing as it is also called, would probably be easier to work with. I used 2"X2"X1/8" angle iron for mine and have had no trouble at all. Put some cross braces in and then start building the tear on top. Once you get the frame and body all tied together it will be REAL strong. I would heed alot of advice on this board and don't overthink the frame.

If your just starting on your tear this is the place you want to be, The guy.s and gal,s on this forum have the answer,s you will need to have answered.I started my tear a couple of weeks ago and my frame is getting close to the point of painting. I built my frame with 2x2 tubing based on Michael W's Luxotear http://westhoffdesign.com/michael/teard ... /index.htm I fell in love with the modern modernistic after finding his site. there are alot of nice looking tears and great idea's here check out the hall of fame there's alot of inspiration there to start the build!

I wanted some wide white walls too but Coker was the only place I found. If anyone has an answer, I'm listening.

last night, i looked at my father in laws trailer he built for his stick welder/generater and he used angle also to build his trailer, so i'm going to go with angle also with 3ribs across the sides threw the middle.....

but last night i was looking the the northern tool catalog and decided to give them a call as for as axle concern told the guy what i would be using it for, i should've talked to a computer, he was reading the catalog word for word, so guys which axle do yaw prefer and why????

In the early 80s (last time I needed wide whites), Sears had some. They were special order out of one of their catalogs (Sears had paper catalogs then) but it may be worth checking out.

thanks, i checked sears in charleston yesterday and they told me to check out coker but noty in my price range just for tires..... but today at lunch i bought the metal for the trailer 2-1/2 angle 60ft of it and i bought a 2000pnd axle with the springs ubolts spindles and hubs but was lookiing threw the hall of fame and i liked STEVE FREDREICKS "STRIP TD" and was wandering what size tires and kind those are, and are the wheels american racings' chrome smoothie? anyways i have alot of friends that drive lowriders and thought about useing a standard knockoff with some gangsta white walls?????who knows?????

Again going back a few years but most used car lots (they weren't "pre-owned certified dealerships" then had someone who made the rounds every week or so who would "even out" the white walls. It was less expensive than replacing a tire or two so that allthe whites were the same, even if the tires weren't.

If you have a UClot around, you might check with them also.
