Fantastic Fan/Vent issue.

Postby kayakrguy » Thu May 07, 2009 6:21 pm

Hi everyone,

Last summer during our trip to the West, we experienced a problem with our fantastic vent and and I wonder if anyone has had a similar problem and knows the solution.

We have a 5000R in our teardrop trailer. We love the fan. We have had it about 2 1/2 years now--it has accompanied us to Newfoundland, Florida and loast summer on a 3 month tour of the Wild Wild West.

On last summer's trip, the fan's thermostat has begun to act up. Currently, it will work ONLY when it is set on the coolest setting on the dial. Any lower setting and th fan will shut off. My questions are 1) What is the explanation for the thermostat's behavior? 2) What is the remedy for the problem?

Any help appreciated.

I hope this finds everyone well.

Jim

Don't mess around with it..

Fantastic Vent has an absolutely unbelievable service policy.

No matter how old it is, whats wrong with it or who's fault it is, They will replace the part for free and in a timely manner.

Call them and ask for a new "T"stat. You will have a new one by Tuesday, Wednesday.

Happy Trails

Len, Jack,

I called Fantastic Vent this AM. Just as you said, they are sending me a new thermostat for the fan. No charge. Now, mind you, getting the thing is is another story <g>

Many thanks,

Jim

Access to thermostat...?

Postby kayakrguy » Wed May 13, 2009 9:48 am

Hi guys,

I got the thermostat. I have a question about gaining access to the old thermostat to switch it out--no instructions came with the new one.

Now, there seem to be two possible ways:

1) there is a circle to screws holding a ring mount on the facing plate--it looks lie the purpose is to hold the screen in--take those out?

2)or, there are Phillips screws in each corner of the facing plate, near the switches--take those out?

Hope all is well,

JIm

problem removing old thermostat...

Postby kayakrguy » Wed May 13, 2009 1:31 pm

Hi folks,

Len, thank you--the fan released fine after removing the screws from the facing plate and the crank for the vent cap.

Snag: The themostat is mounted to the facing plate with two phillips screws that are under the temperature label--you have to scrape off the label to get at the screws (they do send you a new label with the new thermostat)

One of those screws willnot release. It will turn, but it will not come out of the mounting plate that it screws into...I have tried applying some pressure on the end of the screw while turning etc--did not work....there is not enough room to get a hacksaw blade in there....

Suggestions would be appreciated...

Needle-nose vise-grips. Hopefully you have clearance around the screwhead. Clamp on the outside of the head, then pull outward as you turn. This should get it out in a jif, unless the screw is countersunk.

Josh,

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately the screw head IS recessed in the facing plate. The screw head itself is not stripped. The threaded part refuses to release when you turn the screw...

Can you get at any seam between the two parts you are trying to remove? If so try to wedge something between the parts as you turn the screw. This will create tension on the threads of the screw and make them work.
