Hello again from aloha! Round #2

Postby bronco » Mon May 04, 2009 7:46 pm

Well i thought i would introduce my self again since it's been almost two years since i've been on here. I went hot and heavy on the tear build and got it at least 60% built and then life just got busy. So i'm back for round two. You guys were awesome with all of your help and info and it's great to be back. While I was gone did anyone here breed any trunk monkeys to install my aluminum sheeting for me? DAMN! I did'nt so, but it does'nt hurt to ask. By the way i see alot of Oregon people on here but i never see any teardrops on the road. Do you guys travel at night? ha! ha!

Do you still have the Bronco? I have an early one to restore if I ever get to it. Bob

hi bob thanks for the welcome. Its nice to be back. I still have the bronco but unfortunately on my last summer outing I took a side hill at too sharp of an angle and rolled it over. So the body needs to be redone. I have the parts but just need the time now. I made a promise to the wife i would get the teardrop on the road first before any other projects which sounds fine to me! have a great night and good luck on your bronco project their worth the time fixing them up.

The Bronco would make a good tow vehicle for the teardrop. I bought my Bronco new in '69, but with snow & salt here in the northeast it was rusted pretty bad by '77, so I bought a new body from Ford but never did anything with it. It's still sitting on the shipping skid in my barn. A good project for when I retire, hopefully by the end of this year. Bob

Bob, how long ago was it that you bought the body? The only reason i'm asking is since i've had mine i was'nt aware that you could buy a new body from ford. I know alot of aftermarket companies sell enough new pieces you could weld a new bronco together. Anyways, have a great weekend. kevin

Bought it in 1977, the last year they made that body style, looks like it was pulled off the line at some point as it has a tag that says "do not trim, send to shipping. luckily they had already put on the doors, windshield frame, and tailgate, but I wasn't smart enough to get fenders and a grille at that time. I'll go with Dennis Carpenter fenders whenever I get to this project. I heard that someone was assembling a complete body from aftermarket parts but that the fit wasn't all that good. Probably I have the only new original unused factory body in existence!! Most people don't believe it, but it's the honest truth. Just shows that you never know what's out there sitting in some old barn. Bob

boy that is really cool!!! ;) The fact that it such a rare thing in the bronco world you are probably sitting on a small gold mine! ha! I've been a member on classic broncos website for about 8 years or so and have seen origional roadster side mirrors go for over $500. No telling what someone would pay for a factory in the box new body. You could probably build 2 broncos with the money you'd get for it. I subscribe to bronco driver magazine and they are always looking for articles on rare bronco info. You would probably be a shoe in for getting your story in there. Us bronco guys eat that kind of stuff up! ;) I'ts great talking with another bronco fan though. Have a good day Bob.

I get Bronco Driver too. I sent them a couple pictures a few years ago along with a kind of off the wall letter as if it was some crazy character I knew that owned it. [cranky old guy, won't talk to anyone, won't let anyone look at it] Hmmm, maybe that is me!!. Anyway they emailed me once and I told them the actual story, but I don't think they believed it. That's Ok, didn't want my name or location published anyway. It can remain a mystery, like sasquatch or the loch ness monster. There's only a few people around here that have actually seen it. It's supposed to be my project after I retire, which I hope to do in a year or so. Bob
