Mini Trip - Shakedown Run

Postby oldtinker » Sat May 09, 2009 8:01 pm

After trying for two months... death in the family, girlfriend's house broken into and beinging rear-ended in the company truck.... took the teardrop out for the night.
I knew that my Jeep would pull OK but having a short wheelbase I wasn't sure how it would handle at highway speeds. Turns out it did just fine, no sway or wobble. Not the greatest pulling the hills but not too bad either.
I drove up to a campground about 15 miles from home. Got there just as the sun was setting and the moon was rising.
Got a fire going and put some beef smoked sausage in the cast iron, heated some canned peas and had some olives, cheese and pickled eggs. Read for a while then slept like a baby.
Got up made coffee and threw a sweet roll in the skillet. Watched the sun come up and was home at 8:30. Back to mowing weeds and clearing brush.
It was great. A regular vacation in 12 hours. Made a list of what I needed next time and what I didn't need.

What a great mini-trip.

15 miles to a campground - wow!

For me, it's 15 miles just to get outside the Beltway.

OT
Thats great. Glad everything went ok. My wife has a Jeep Liberty and it's a short wheel base too. Pulls pretty good as long as the wind isn't blowing too hard.
Looks like you have a pretty good friend there with you too. Where ya going on your trip next time? This week Jan and I are going over to Indiana to meet some of the folks over there. Be good to get away from work for a few days.
Hope you have a good one.

 Great fun huh! TD looks great too. There are days when I think I need to find some hidden places for quick getaways.

Thats one thing I love about living in the north-west with a loaded trailer.

You can wake up Saturday morning, decide you want to go camping this weekend, jump on the road and be hanging out at camp by lunch time!

Too cool! Awesome! Thanks for sharing your first time out and and the pix!

I can't hardly wait to finish mine and go camping. Great thing about being up here in the mountains, great camp areas in every direction...AL in Asheville
