Hello everyone, As we look forward to our annual Tearup at Fish Creek and seeing all of you and also meeting new friends, Becky and I thought this year we could do something special as a group. We would like some of your thoughts on doing a food drive for the local food pantry in Lake Placid. We talked to Linda Young from The Ecumenical Charity Program(a non profit org), she oversees the food pantry. They cover the entire area up there, not just Lake Placid. There is a strong need for their support in the community. We could do a " Fill The Pickup ". It's only a Ford Ranger so it shouldn't take too much to fill it. We all carry non perishable goods with us when we camp so a couple of extras won't take up too much room. This would be giving back a little to the area that we enjoy so much.

Looking forward to seeing everyone in June!

Thanks for coming up with this great idea for campers to support the Food Bank Ed and Becky! We'll be sure to pack some of our great Canadian food for variety!

Newbie Intro

Postby johnstp » Sun May 17, 2009 10:28 pm

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to introduce ourselves. We don't own a teardrop, but we're seriously considering purchasing one, so we figured this would be the group to meet and learn from!

We've (me, wife and child) reserved site 204 from 6/12-6/15.

Please let me know what we need to do to participate in the potluck and food drive.

Looking forward to meeting you all!

Welcome John! Glad you can make it! There will certainly be a LOT of trailers for you to check out, and a wealth of friendly campers willing to help you out.

Actually we are changing up the idea of the pot luck. I'll be posting details shortly.

Cheers

TearUp Update - Pot Luck Replaced with Wine and Cheese

Postby campadk » Wed May 20, 2009 8:34 am

The TearUp registration list is still growing which is fantastic but we have started to worry about pulling off a successful potluck with so many campers. The space required for the numbers is a problem. Also, we have been very lucky over the years to always have had good weather on Pot Luck night. When the group was small we could always throw up an Easy Up to protect the tables but with so many attendees this poses a huge undertaking. So what do we do? Another camper came up with a great suggestion that we forgo having the Pot Luck and in it's place have a wine and cheese tasting. We thought this was the perfect solution!

So the plan is we will set up a table and (cover if necessary) and campers can bring a favourite bottle of wine and a small plate of cheese and crackers, or 1 bite appetizers.

Place: Site 241 (Dave and Kate)
Time: Saturday Night June 13th at 6:00 p.m. (this will allow time for people to return from their days activities and have supper)
Event Schedule:
Wine and Cheese followed by the group photo in front of the banner
Draw for prizes (food drive draw and donated prizes)
Steal a gift game

I like the new plan. It makes perfect sense given the size of the group.

This will allow everyone to enjoy the company and the wine and cheese party :wine: without having to "cart" the Dutch ovens or crock pots from a long distance. It will make the clean up much easier also. :applause:

My compliments to the chef..

I might even start early since I only have 5 sites to go back "home".

Sounds good Kurt. We can have a Pre WineUp the ADK party to ensure drinks are tasty.

Note that the washroom is right across from our site... which will come in handy.
I'll notify staff that there will be 100 wind drinkers using the facilities on Saturday night. :R

John, history has always prdovied that our tans and smiles are vastly improved after refreshments. It will be easier to corner folks once everyone has gather about, to take the photo.

Going to have to REALLY squeeze everyone in to get everyone in!
