Been lurking long enough. My husband and I are about 1/2 way through our build. We started in October, hoping to be finished by Easter, but have just admitted we are not going to make it. Now shooting for Memorial Day. We both have some handicraft background, I grew up working in my father's shop (master cabinet maker who built roulette wheels for 40 years) and my husband's grandfather was a master carpenter in the heart of Amish country Ohio. My husband owns his own machine shop, so building the frame was the easiest part of the project. Detals" 5 x 10, homebuilt metal welded frame. Two doors. Bulkhead cabinets (three drop down below, one for shoes and two for dirty clothes) with two above and a central open shelf. Galley still under discussion, but will include a fold out self for stove, no sink, sliding doors in the back and cabinets under the counter.
With our backgrounds, it has to be a WOODY, so learning to fiberglass (I am the finisher in the family, if there is one thing I can do, it is sand) has slowed the process, but it looks pretty good. Got most of our hardware from Grant, using Steve's shop manual (but with solid walls, not ready for sandwich construction yet). I am also a quilter, so it is a race to see whether the tear or the quilt is finished first. Since I am a hand quiltiner, and working on BOTH the tear and the quilt, my bet is on the tear. Both are about 1/2 finished. The proflie resembles a whale, thus the whale theme quilt. Pics attached.
