Campground Hookups

Anything electric, AC or DC

I used an independent hitch installer and was happy with the results. The result I wanted was a charge wire from the tow vehicle battery in addition to a 7-pin connector on the hitch.

This worked out well.

Huh! This has got to be the only forum on the internet that can read the title "Campground Hookups" and not find it titillating. Even after somebody talks about a power grip male to female adapter. Folks, this is a sure sign we're kinda' old.

Found a YouTube video on how to install the wiring

Looks quite simple:

This is also available on the etrailer website

I've got a 2005. I checked in there and do need a wiring kit. It appears to pretty much just plug in, if you know where to look. Then I'll need a 7 prong adapter.

Thanks, I'm feeling MUCH better informed!

tearhead,

I used a local independent shop that mostly does hitches and mufflers so that is no help to you in WI. But the hitch installer knew how to hook up the 7-pin connector on the tow vehicle. He ran a #10 wire from the tow vehicle battery with a 25 or 30 amp in-line fuse near the battery. That wire connects to the charging wire for the trailer battery through the 7-pin connector on the trailer. The other two pins are for trailer brakes and backup light if installed. In my case only the five wires are in use.

It might be worth a couple of calls to see if you can find someone willing to add the charge wire along with the hitch and 7-pin connector. I found the company I used on the internet yellow pages and a site that had reviews from satisfied customers. Another option would be any RV dealer. I would not go to the car dealer. They are usually only permitted to do what is "standard" for them and they charge more.

I imagine U-Haul would only do the flat 4-pin running light connections. It will save time and trouble and maybe expense if you can get the hitch and 7-pin electrical set up at the same place.
