Again there was a day when the sons of Dog came to present themselves before the DOG, and CAT came also among them to present himself before the DOG.
And the DOG said unto CAT, From whence comest thou? And CAT answered the DOG, and said, From going to and fro in the campsites, and from walking up and down in the streets of north texas.
And the DOG said unto CAT, Hast thou considered my servant CD? for there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and art upright man, one that feareth Dog, and escheweth the cat: and he still holdeth fast his photography, although thou movedst me against him, to prevent his teardrop build without cause.
And CAT answered the DOG, and said, Teardrop for Teardrop, yea, all that a man hath will he give for the building of a tear.
But put forth thine hand now, and touch his wallet, construction methods and build, and he will renounce thee to thy face.
And the DOG said unto CAT, Behold, he is in thine hand; only spare His teardrop.
So CAT went forth from the presence of the DOG, and smote CD with loss of funding, foul weather, and other distractions ;)

Hey Dog, I'll donate some epoxy paint to seal it with if you can get it to TX.

Sure, I think?

I have never used it. Can I get it tinted like other paints? Does it come in gloss and matte? I'm an epoxy virgin.

I have a UPS account, so getting it here is no problem. I just don't know anything about the stuff.

Well let me give you some insight. Yes it is tintable and yes it comes in various shades of "shinny" . However epoxies resins are not UV stable so they need to be top coated with a UV inhibited finish coat. I can make flat/satin finish coats also. Now the bad news, it ships as Hazmat. Its probally $60-$100 to ship it motor freight. Maybe we need to have a gathering some where around Tulsa and you can come over to the shop and gather what you need. OK Jewel's tear has epoxy base with urethane metallic color coat then a urethane clear coat.

Ouch, that's expensive to ship.

However, let me ask you this. Can I use epoxy as a sealer/primer, and then paint over it? If so, what sticks to it, and what does not?

Not Ron, but yup, you can do that, that's how I've done all of mine. The epoxy needs to be scuffed to give it a tooth to accept paint over it, don't get real aggressive on that or it will show, I do like 220-320 grit. If you do get aggressive, then it needs some primer to fill the scratches. Automotive urethane/epoxy based paint/clear can go directly over epoxy, but if you have any bondo or filler type putties they need to be primed prior to painting as I did on the last 2. I have no knowledge in other type paint systems over epoxy so can't help you there. I'd say if in doubt, get with their technical dept. for the answers. Doug

CaseyDog,
Doug is correct you can put most topcoats over the epoxy. Automotive finishes can be applied after sanding and proper prep. Industrial finishes can be applied without sanding if done within a certain time frame.

It looks like you can paint over CPES with pretty much any paint, including latex house paint. Is that true? How about the stuff you have?

The color I want is easily mixed as house paint, and I want a matte finish to almost look like canvas. But, I would like a good water seal under the paint.

Any thoughts?
