That's it we quit!

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

I've never been so proud to be in the company of a bunch of quitters. For me it's more than ten years. What helped me was to fine differant things to do when I would have been smoking.

I had a really hard time in the boat fishing.. Every time I would catch a fish I would light up, every time I would pull out of a spot I would light up, once I slowed back down to scope out a new spot on the locator I would light up again. i really struggle with this still after all these years..A good 8 to 10 hours on the water was nearly 2 packs some days..There was a gal that was a biologist for the DNR and she would be on the water on wednsdays counting fish, she knew I was trying to quit so she gave me alot of hard candy. My tackle box top is full of candy.. lol I have not fished much since I quit, there still three lighters in there too..I still associate fishing with ciggys, that sucks because I like to fish....

I've tried to get my husband to quit but he refuses. Says he enjoys it too much so he smokes outside. I think one of the reason's he won't camp with me is because he won't smoke in my camper or SUV.

I don't shun smokers...to each his own. The majority of smokers are pretty considerate of others.

Seven years here after smoking for 30 years. I always say that my motivation was I thought I was going to die. I used the patch too for a couple of weeks and then was just done. Now I can't walk by the smoking area without holding my breath. Keep up the good work, you can do it.

I had quit for 25 years. Then I had to quit alcohol. I tried a cigarette as a diversion from drinking. Borrowed a few and before I knew it, I was sneaking behind the garage for a smoke. It was amazing to me how fast I became addicted again. I quit again about a month before my heart attack. Five stents later, I quit for good. It was only a few months of relapse and along with other health problems, I almost killed myself. Clean now and exercising. The worst thing about smoking, besides the obvious health problems, is the smell of the smoke. My advice is to not smoke the first one. I did that for 25 yrs and then it happened.
I have wisdom beyond my years. In fact, I'm nearly senile.

Yea that's what Barbara says she works near a guy that smokes and she can smell the smoke on him when he is nearby.

My better half still smokes. Her mom was told she needs a lung transplant but she refuses to quit.. I dont get it.. They see it right in their face the reasons to quit but refuse to even try.. sad deal this addiction stuff...

Boy what a bunch of quitters!

Postby LesterS » Sun May 17, 2009 9:03 am

I quit a carton-a-week habit, ne addiction, 1479 days ago - but who's counting? (For the mathematically challenged, that's 4 years now.)

The most powerfull tool I learned about quitting is...
A "craving" will never last more than 3 minutes. If you can distract, subvert, stall or otherwise delay satisfying that crave, you can beat the addiction!

I used the patch, and some strong mints (sugarless). The secondary benefit is my breath went from foul stench to minty fresh! :D

27 years of cowboy-killers probably has done some permanent damage, but now I know I'm damaging anything any further.

... Now if only my daughter will get the same message.

Quit smoking in 1997, a week before I got married. My wife said that she did not like to kiss me because I tasted like a cigarette. I used the patch for about 2 weeks and finally had enough of that patch. My new habit turned into chewing on Altoids. My teeth my rot out but at least my lungs won't. And I always have good breath so I can kiss my wife. :D

Keep up the fight. It is definitely worth it. I did not realize how bad my sense of smell was until I got it back.

Chantix

Postby Kelleyaynn » Wed May 20, 2009 5:05 pm

My husband tried to quit smoking several times (it was non-negotiable for us to get married), and he relapsed a few months after our wedding. He finally tried Chantix, and it worked like a charm. Gives you weird dreams, and he still has the urge to smoke once in a while, but it made it much easier than it was the first few times.

I smoked years ago, what got me to quit was I got ahold of a very stale pack of cigerettes and got sicker than a dog.... Couldn't stand them after that..

I started working in radio when I was 15 and in high school. I'd go to school at 8:00AM, get out at 3:00, work from 6:00PM to Midnight, get home by 1:00AM, get up at 6:00 to get cleaned up and make it back to school by 8:00AM. I learned to drink coffee and smoke during that time. The station even bought smokes by the carton for us!

I quit smoking after I quit working at that station...

Well it will be seven weeks tomorrow, still hanging in there.
It gets very hard at times but since we are doing it to gather it helps,
also a lot of you have given us some good tips. Thanks for your support.
