Packing for a Different Kind of Camping Trip

Postby Lynn Coleman » Thu May 21, 2009 11:04 pm

This coming week we'll be taking the Inkwell on it's first trip out of Florida. We'll be going through some mountains for the first time. Okay, not the Rockies but mountains nonetheless.

What's really different about this trip is that we'll be camping at KOA's and one in the heart of the city.

Anyone ever stay at a KOA with a teardrop or TTT?

I know we'll be tiny in comparison. And we'll probably be the only ones using the showers.

They do offer free wifi, this will be good.

We're going to Louisville, KY and staying across the river in Indiana for a week, anyone from around there?

Hey Lynn, Louisville has 2 KOA's. Which one are you staying in. Boy I wish you were going a couple of weeks later. Mom and I are planing on staying in the Louisville South KOA and I sure would appreciate a report...... :worship: This is the KOA South: The last time I went through there the other looked kinda of noisy and rough. It sits under a freeway almost. (At least I hope I have them right.

The Louisville Metro it is actually across the river in IN but only 6 miles from the conference center.

I just learned that my father in law needs radiation asap for a tumor in his esophagus, this might delay or cancel our trip. Paul's mom has alzheimers so we'll be needing to take care of her as well as help with Paul's dad.

Sorry to hear about your dad, but I've been through radiation therapy, and it's really not bad. He may possibly feel slightly nauseated, but the anti-nausea pills they have will knock it right out. My radiation was aimed at my abdomen, which is probably why I felt some very mild nausea. I drove myself to and after each day's treatment with no problems.

I hope his treatments go as well as mine did.

Trip is still on. I've arranged for a different family in our church to check up on the in-laws while we're away. Paul is only an airplane ride away if an emergency happens. I can always drive the truck and Inkwell home on my own, if need be.

We were going to stop at Stone Mt. on the way home and do some geocaching but I think we'll cut the trip a day short so that Paul can spend that day at the VA getting his dad set up there.

We've stayed at KOA's several times. Not much different except you can use those big-ole RV's to shade the TTT since they never have enough trees!

We're here at the Metro Louisville, KY KOA. BTW it's not in KY but rather across the river in OH. For being a metropolitan campground it's not bad. The price of ice in their store is very reasonable $1.50 per bag. They keep it clean. We were fortunate that they decided to put us in a shaded spot. Of course, we're not here all day so we don't know how hot the trailer gets.

One of the advantages to using our trailer for a convention is that you don't have to go to restraunts for every meal. I've been using the crock pot and we've gone out a couple times for dinner.

It's nice sleeping in our own place. I like nice hotels with the maid service, clean sheets the whole bit but I'm really liking staying in our own trailer more.

Okay time to finish emails, night all.

Yup, it wasn't too bad. We have also stayed in them while tenting and again not so bad. The showers are nice and it was a little less wild than I like it however when you are moving across an area and need a place to stay then they are great.

 Good morning Lynn! When you get home could you tell us if it is noisy at night. I am coming through in a week and haven't decided which one to stay in.

Enjoy!

Mandy the Inkwell did well. Our biggest problem is things bouncing around when we're traveling. We've got that down to a minimun (don't think I spelled that correctly) but still have to fashion some other latches.

Miriam the noise level is not an issue at all. It's very quite. The train going by during the day is load when you're on your cell phone but I haven't noticed a problem during the night. Of course, the Inkwell is pretty sound proof especially with the ac running.

It's a good KOA, the wifi isn't the best, goes in and out a lot. But other than that I have no complaints.

Stayed at a koa in New Orleans.. funny, when I called they asked what year it was.. I told them a 2004.... no problem. They actually watched our dog one day for 5 bucks while we went downtown.

There was one older camper there, but it was in very nice condition.. they made him park over in an unused site under a big tree in the corner of the park.... we parked under another nearby tree because... we have a teardrop with no awning. And at that time, no ezup.

This was on the west side of NO... the campgrounds on the East side have guards... do not stay on the east side of NO.. of course, that was just before Katrina hit, so I have no idea of what things are like now.. maybe parts are just one big campground.
