Hello from Ohio

Postby Akela114 » Sun May 24, 2009 5:51 pm

I am contemplating building a teardrop trailer for camping in. My wife refuses to use a tent. So I thought I would dabble. Anyone here from Ohio? What are good things to include in my plans? What is a good ballpark price range for building my own over buying one? I have only gotten to give the site a cursory glance with all the overall info on it. I am thinking of planning for a while before I act.
Thanks!

Welcome aboard!!

If you're planning on planning for awhile then immersing yourself in the build threads will provide a wealth of guidance.

I bought mine so can't speak from experience on building.

Enjoy!

Welcome Chad, yes there's a bunch from OH on here I'm sure they'll be along. I'm a neighbor from Indiana. Your on the right track by taking your time and doing a lot of reading and planning before you start, will save re-do's down the road. As far as price you can build as cheap as you need to and still be camping of the ground in no time. I can relate there was no way my wife would consider a tent now she's always ready to go.

Might think of visiting a local gathering and seeing some in person to help with your planning. Check out the Midwest section for local gathering info. We've got a big Tri state gathering planned for the end of July including OH.

Chad, welcome to the forum.
Your story sounds familiar. The teardrop will make a big difference in the "camping pleasure".

We will be having a gathering at Chain of Lakes state park (July 31-Aug 1) and you are welcome to come and see some teardrops.
Seeing them in person will help you decide on many aspects of building style and features.
Hope to see you there.

Image to the playground Chad. Do go and see the teardrops if you can. You will never regret it. Very few are alike and seeing a bunch is a treat.

Cost depends on how much you are willing to spend and how good a scavenger you are. Buy really good wood, screws and glue and let the rest come from where ever you find it.

Hi Chad, welcome aboard. Check out the Hall of Fame, above and some of the build sites available. You should have no trouble at all building your dream trailer. I suggest you make a model of the shape you intend to build. 1 inch to a foot, works for me. Make changes in cardboard, it's a lot cheaper. Good luck.
