Utility trailer/tear slide in?

Postby wallydog » Sun May 24, 2009 10:59 pm

I have just lost the use of a really good utility trailer and must now replace it. I have an idea for a slide in tear that will fit into a 5'x10' utility trailer. I did see a picture of one of these somewhere but I can't think where. Has anyone seen this idea used anywhere? I would like to make it easily removable using jacks and a hand winch to slide it on and off.

Even if it hasn't been done, you can. The people on this forum do amazing things. Welcome.

Welcome Wallydog,
this one was just posted again just a few days ago, kinda neat looking but I wouldn't want to stuff my large self through those doors

I need a new Avatar. I'd put my dog up there but she doesn't look much like me. She's the skinny one.

Utility trailer/tear slide in?

Postby wallydog » Mon May 25, 2009 9:57 pm

Hi, thanks for the reply, I remember seeing this one now, and I must agree with you about entry. I don't think I would cherish all those barked shins! My plan is similar but longer and no side rails. Still in the thinking stages at this time but I would like to have a dual use trailer as I don't have a lot of parking space and the city has a bylaw about RV's having to be out of sight in the off season.

Image to the playground Wallydog. Don't let a little thing like doors stop you. You can always make a removable or opening gate. 8) Ya might have to move the axle back some too...... 8)

Enjoy the site and be sure to :pictures: :pictures: :pictures: cause it helps keep the bubble oil level...... ;)

Two thougths:

While this gives dual functionality of a trailer, it seems a bit of a waste as far as work and workmanship go.

Second, a major appeal of a teardrop is it's hitch-up-and-go factor. An hour's worth of work to slide it in, latch it down, etc. seems to defeat the practicality purpose.

Plus, it's a certain bet you'll scratch the crap out of it the first time you go to load it on the utility trailer.

WallyDog, there are only 8 things I have to say about your plans to build a slide in:
.
1. Check out the various pics of the slide-ins already built by others.
2. Get started right away, the sooner the better.
3. Ask questions, we feel slighted if you never ask us for advice.
4. Try to build one that is a bit different from the "standard" type.
5. Take plenty of pictures as you are building your trailer.
6. Post those pictures, so we all can chop you for making mistakes, oops
I mean so we can give you advice, if you need it.
7. Get involved in attending our TD and TTT gatherings across the US.
8. Send me money so I can finish my latest teardrop trailer. :-)
Other than that, good luck on your build and we'll see you at a campfire. 8) :?

Slide in.

Thanks Roly, nice to hear positive feedback. I am having problems with procrastination as to design at the moment. I have slowly come full circle and now think I might attempt the winter Warrior design as a slide in pod for my new utility trailer which is still under construction. I will certainly get a picture album started soon and will post some pictures when I have something interesting to show off.
