re-sizing help needed

Anything to do with mechanical, construction etc

wow what can i say, did'nt expect you to spend all that time on the design for me, feel guilty keeping you away from your work. it looks just what i'm after and it gives me a great idea as to how much room i will get out of the sizes i gave you. a concern has now struck me now though. will the 1/8th ply fold around the lower radius ok, it looks a tight curve? i may have to forego my original hopes and revert to the ultralight shape at the base of the teardrop were it does'nt tuck fully under the floor!
i had planned on skinning the inside only round the head/toe area not fully and love the mattress shaping idea.
you read my mind as for the chassis as i had planned to build it along the ultra chassis idea a basic A frame
oh almost forgot, i plan on putting a none opening window in the door (not sue what shape yet) just going to router a whole and glaze it in, maybe some trim around the edge to finish it.
again a big thank you for your help with this one

Re your concerns over the radius, there is a whole school of building that does away with the ply on the outer roof, and just uses aluminium fixed directly to the roof spars. You certainly wouldn't have a problem bending that.

There are many cleverer people than me who can advise you whether you would save weight too this way. But if you were going for a cheap & quick build, I guess ally would spoil your plans!

There are a couple of UK suppliers... haven't bought from them yet myself, but can point you in their direction if you're interested.

Don't feel guilty. I hate house cleaning. And it really wasn't all that much work, maybe an hour or two.

The tightest curve (lower rear) on what I drew is about an 11" radius. I haven't worked with 1/8" ply myself, so you will have to wait until somebody who has experience can respond to that issue.

Sorry - I've been away on holiday and then fighting to catch up with work - not to mention finding there's 140 threads on this forum that I need to read to catch up......

Sqweaka, your choice of sizes is eery - I've been working (very slowly, I must admit) on a design just the size you want:

Image

That's a 80" long by 44.5" high profile, though the floor is 4.5" above the bottom, so the body is really only 40" high. This shows one way to get the bottom radiuses that you want - by putting them in side skirts. The sleeping man is 71" tall.
