New guy in Minnesota - already impressed

Thought I'd finally register after a year or two of lurking. Also, thought I'd share a little story...

Was up on the north shore of Lake Superior camping in my hastily tossed together Northern Tool, squared off "tear" over the recent holiday weekend. A little disaster struck. I was heading into Crosby state park. It has a narrow gravel road (having left the trailer at another park we were staying at), when I pulled off onto the side a bit to let the park ranger through. My mini van instantly sunk to the axle (despite the nicely dressed class 5 I was driving over). It continued to sink up to the wheel well, and thought it was going to flip over.

Going the other way was the park ranger (who at least helped me call a wrecker - otherwise would have been a 7 mile walk to the nearest phone), and also a ford ranger pulling a nice looking wood side teardrop. The couple stopped by and kept us company until the wrecker showed. Also showed us their nifty teardrop. The guy even gave my daughter some strawberries. What a friendly bunch you all are. In the end, all was OK and only a towing bill and muddy van was the result. The wrecker operator said he'd pulled 6 cars out of the same spot, and that the DNR had simply built the parking lot over a creek (explains the running water under my submerged van). Anyhow, watch where you drive if you enter Crosby park near Finland MN...

Well, the experience finally got me to register after lurking for years. Also got me thinking about the next build. This is a great site with friendly people.

Welcome!

Great story -- new teardropper aided by veteran teardropper.

I wonder if that was someone on this forum.

Good of you to caution others about that road.

Looking forward to photos of your teardrop.

Welcome Pete! I find that 99% of the people I know with teardrops or TTT's are very nice people that you would want to camp with. Check out the Tearjerkers site for St. Croix chapter gatherings if your interested.

Welcome Pete,
As Tim said, there is a gathering on the 5th, 6th and 7th of June near Pine City if you would like to camp, or just stop by. No charge for either.

Hi Pete,

Welcome to the forum. I'm glad you met some nice teardroppers! I think there's a lot more where they came from! 8) 8)

Could be wrong, but I have a hunch who those teadroppers were, and if it was them, yes, they are a couple of swell people and some of the nicest teardroppers you will ever meet... :applause:

Welcome, Pete! Glad you decided to join the campfire!
