Really simple 12v only wiring help

It's time to finish the wiring and I'm a complete novice. It's a simple setup: I have the ceiling wiring setup with 4 small lights and a vent/fan. The two leads from all this drop into my wiring raceway. That's about where it ends! There's nothing else right now that I want to wire in.

Problem is that I don't know where to begin as far as hooking this up to a fuse block (I only have one circuit here, really), then running that to the battery. Somewhere a ground has to come into play, I surmise. Maybe fuse block is an excessive term here - just one fuse somewhere?

I plan on charging the trailer battery with the tow vehicle, as per a thread found here, so no shore power, converters, chargers etc.

Gus, the simplest way to go at this time is to go to an auto parts house or Radio Shack and get an inline fuse...probably something with about a 12-14ga wire and a 10A fuse...put this between the positive lead and the positive side of the battery...of course the other lead to the negative side...with only one circuit, that is about as simple as it gets.........

Thanks to you both! I just wanted to be safe. Earlier today, I bought an automotive style fuse holder and a 10amp tube fuse, so I think I'll be set!

I know this is an old post, but it had EXACTLY the information I needed. I too have a small system (2 LED overhead lights, 1 LED reading light and a small converted computer fan for the vent). I rarely use more than 1 light at a time. When I bought the trailer there was an inline fuse right at the battery with a black and a red wire wing-nutted to the battery this line went to a tape bundle and out came a 4 pin tow type plug that went into the frame.

In the process of upgrading my tongue box and buying a new battery (the old one was 8 years old and would not hold a charge) the wires that went from the battery to the 4 pin connection got misplaced.

I needed to know what size fuse was in the line and I needed to know if this was still an acceptable and safe type of wiring for a very small draw system.

I have since traced the wires, re-attached a ground and set up a new line from my new battery to the trailer (did that this weekend) but I would have not felt comfortable doing it if I had not found this advise on Friday night.

As long as you have a fuse in the Circuit it does not make a lot of difference where you put it. Look on the fan and see what it draws. It it draws 3 I'd put a 5. The led draws nothing so the fan is the factor.
