Ok Mark and Rob you have made your point. But I just have to tell ya that my wife is crazy strong :D If I were to purchase gas shocks what # of force would I need for a hatch weighing say 70 lbs? Also how do I set them up to pull on the last foot of the hatch closing?

Thanks Guys

Hi Joe,

She looks pretty strong in the picture ;) but when you're camping, you're supposed to relax, not get a good workout!

There are days that I open, and close the hatch 8-10 times a day...kind of like a kid looking in the fridge for something to eat...

Here is a link to a discussion that has some of Andrew's drawings.

Hopefully Andrew, or someone else with greater skill than I can help you with the layout (you really need to do that part anyway, even for basic non assist arms)
Once that part is done, just install the lifts and you're finished!

Mine has alittle pull when closed, but my first tear had shorter stuts that where mounted in reverse of the current one viewd here and had a stiffer pull when closed. The first tear had a longer mounting tab on the hatch where the stut mounted.
