Or you could just run it where it suits you best and it is out of harms way and forgoet all the goobledy gook. It's a miniature travel trailer, if you use a little common sense and careful building practices everything should be fine. I don't think you are going to be having many electrical inspectors stopping by to make sure you are up to code. Oh right, what code.

Nomex is a stranded version of Romex. At least that's what I read on the RV forum I was looking at. I have a large roll of sheathed 3-strand wire around here someplace that I use to make extension cords. Not sure of the wire size. If it's 14 gauage, I'm in business. That should handle a 5000 BTU air unit. as long as it is the only think on that circuit. They work with standard house 15 amp breakers which usually run 14 ga.

Codes? That's what I thought...what code? I think I'll stick with my 30" long 3/4" wide floor raceway. It'll look like wide floor molding. I may run another on the curb side just to make it match for appearances. I'll screw two pieces of 3/4"x3/4" to the wall before I add the inside wall skins, at the floor and 2 1/4" above it, run the wires between them, tack on a 3" strip of paneling to cover it all and top it off with a piece of 3/4" quarter round molding.

Powderburn,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that code applies to commercial building applications, i.e. someone building teardrops for sale. I don't think it applies to those building for their personal use.

Oy Vey.

Guys, we're building TDs here. Not the Space Shuttle.

Okay, okay. Don't get your pants all in a wad. I said correct me if I'm wrong.....................but didn't say beat me against the barn door, for God's sake. :rofl2: I get your point. I'll buy a book and build my tear to meet (what was it now, NEC) code. Thanks for the many tips.

Relax, Powderburn. I'll buy the book and save you all that writing.

I had a Union Electrician quote wiring my barn when I built it. He wanted upwards of $2,500. I went to the county building inspector and he told me how to wire it myself.................for $270! I passed the inspection by the way, :applause: so I'm not illiterate when it comes to following directions. 8)

If the trailor(camper,RV,doghouse on stilts, etc etc) has more than a 12volt system,It has codes to follow and MUST be inspected.Maybe thats the reason some TDs are excempt from inspection.Wasnt all the old models 12v only?

The 2005 code book is now available but its expensive.Youd be better off having an electrician interprit it for you though.I had one lawyer buy a book for a case we were on and he couldnt understand it either.

Sorry...I wasnt trying to thrash you like that.I was more so trying to explain why we have to.

Don't tell that to the Florida DMV. I believe that all they want is a picture of it, it's length and weight, and your money (especially your money) to give you a title and tag.

Dale,

I think that's pretty much the way it is with most States..............maybe not all, but most. Unfortunately we do live in an extremely litigious society, so what Powderburn is talking about is certainly possible. I, for one, will have little use for 110V electricity to be installed in my tear.

I do plan on checking with our local DMV office before starting to see what's required. Although I don'r recall anyone from FL saying that they had any problems getting a TD titled and tagged. I don't want to run into any surprised when I go to get it titled.

I stopped by the local DMV today and found out that Florida doesn't title a trailer under 2000 lbs. All they want to see is the weight (certified) and my driver's license and they'll issue a tag. I should have known that as I have a utility trailer already, but guess I just forgot (CRS syndrome which is common in us old geezers). So, It'l only cost me a few bucks a year for a tag (under $20 for a small trailer).
 :applause:  :P
That's right...we don't worry about no stinking codes! :D

What's with the houses??? We're talking about little bitty trailers here. We ain't got no electrical inspections on them. We ain't got NO inspections on them. We just get it the little sucker weighed, get a tag, then go camping and have FUN (maybe even a beer or pickle juice or such).

I asked for wire running ideas and got several which all sound good, and I decided how I would run mine (thanks, guys for the ideas). I don't know how we got into all the codes for houses. I have enough to deal with our code police just to build a 10x13 frame utility shed with NO electricity. I have to put a footer under my existing slab just to replace my old metal shed with a new framed shed, and prove to their satisfaction that it can withstand 110 MPH winds by embedding huricane ties in the footer to attach to the walls. HMMMMM...Wonder if a dog house needs that kind of weather protection here? If so, I couldn't afford the a dog unless he stays inside the house.

You're just not going to give up are you Powderburn? Just relax. :worship: We'll all go out and buy the book..............and even hire licensed electricians to intrepret them (since we are too stupid to do it ourselves) 8) and build tiny teardrop trailers to meet NEC specs................now will you please rest it?
