Colorado Rookie

Hello everyone,

I stumbled upon this site about a month ago.

My wife and were planning a road trip to South Dakota for a get away
this summer and were looking to buy a popup trailer. Well we found one
and bought it. Then I started to checkout ebay and came across some camper plans. My interest was sparked. Googled "teardrop camper" and here I am.

Lots of valuable info here, and the people seem to be very friendly.

Planning to build a Generic Benroy for my first project.

Found an old mid 60's camper an acquaintance is willing to give away.
Will be picking it up this week.

Chompin at the bit to git 'er done.

Hoping to convince my wife that the tear would be the way to go when roadtriping.

Thanks
Bill

Another member from Colorado! Welcome. Good luck with your build. I built a Generic Benroy also. It was a lot of fun!

Welcome to the board! We have quite a few teardrops in Colorado and some awesome people for you to camp with!

My brother and I built the "Cherry Drop" in 2006 and I have over 20K miles on her. There is the ITG3 in June in Minden, NE, which is a large gathering and a whole lot of fun!!! Something to shoot for?

Then, I host a gathering the end of September, outside of Canon City, down by the Royal Gorge, called the "Last Gasp of Summer" averaging 25-35 teardrops from up to 7-8 states.

As for your wife, tell her there are MANY of us "Lady Teardroppers", many of us have built our own, remodeled or had a hand in the building or atleast own them and LOVE them!!!! We are always looking for more women with the 'camping bug'!!!

This is THE site for you as a a builder. There is more knoweldge on this site than anywhere, and you will find everyone chomping at the bit to help, advise and share their knowledge.

Again, welcome!

Image to the playground Bill. Now no one is gonna kick you out of a gathering for having a tent, however one rain and putting it away wet and the clean up will help with the build. 8)

It won't be hard to convince her. Take here to a commercial teardrop dealer, lil guy, etc, and let her get in one and lay down. She'll find it cozy. Let here look around the hall of fame at he top of the page and show her how nice one can be. Then remind her how nice it is to not have to set-up and take down a pop-up after driving for hours, at night, in the rain, etc. No set up with a teardrop, pullover, jump in! She'll get on board. :D

Ol what's her name was a skeptic as well. After our 1 st outing ( at -17 wind chill yet) she was hooked. On Halloween I had had an accident that morning and we had been invited to the kids for a party. I tried to beg off but she said just hook up the tear and when you feel like it go to bed. It turned out to be a great idea and yes I did retire early. New years she again suggested we take our "bedroom " with us so we would not have to risk driving home. Once again a great idea even though Indiana in January is not normally great camping weather we were warm and snug thanks to a small electric heater plugged in to our hosts garage outlet.

These were a couple unexpected benefits that I have learned to enjoy also.

I will more than likely use the popup for our trip.

Then I plan on selling the popup replaced by the soon to be built Benroy.
I think the wife will come around. When I first saw teardrops at a dealer, I thought that they were a neat little toy, but now I think I would take one on most any trip. Now my mind looks at the versatility of the TD.

Will be posting pics as soon as the destruction of the old camper begin.

Will be a great learning experience.

Got the camper home today.
I think it's got a lot of parts worth salvaging.

Just not sure if I will use them.

There's a stove/oven, 3-way fridge, heater, sink, and electrical system.

Planning on starting the demolition this Tuesday.

I currently live in Falcon, east of Colorado Springs.
Planning to move back up to Lake George at the end of July.
This makes for a long commute, but the wife loves the peace and serenity up there. I've got most of the framing of the benroy done. Will have pics soon.

Hi Dan and Julie,
Looks like your build is coming along very well.
I'll be putting the walls up soon.
Just put a second layer of undercoating on the floor.
Next is insulating the framed wall and I will be putting the wall interior
on before I put the walls up.
