Paint or linoleium

Ok I do not know how to spell so forgive me.

On my blog about the build i mentioned about getting some linoleium and someone left teh comment, why not just paint the floor. Its lighter and less of a hassle.

I am still going to do teh linoleium, yet i wonder what do others think of this. Just to paint the floor.

I would think it would be a smoother surface with linoleium and would be less wear on a mattress. Not to mention a little more water resistant. to spill and such. I could always go with a travetrine tile flooring.

Your ideas?

For the reasons you mentioned; plus I wanted it to look more finished, even if nobody looks under the mattress. Half a box of peel and stick tile weighs what?...Maybe 5 pounds.

Lino works for me. Our store bought came with a rug like material, I prefer the lino though.

Linoleum will look nice. I have an oak parquet floor in my tear. Of course, I never see it, and it added about 38 pounds to the weight of the trailer. It gives a finished look that you just can't get with a painted floor. Next time might do a 1/4" teak and holly plywood overlay for the floor.

I painted the floor. The small spot not covered with the mattress has a rug, cut to fit....

It wasn't weight or anything like that.. just seemed unnecessary waste of my time. and I can take the rug out and shake out the sand.

I used vinyl tiles. They were extras I found at a floor store for cheap.

I lino'ed mine front to back, but now after everything is in, you only see about 2"s at the back. Kinda wasteful if you ask me.

Linoleum on mine, even though you only see a tiny bit of it at the back of the galley.

One of the many complaints is vapor dripping to the floor and wetting the mattress. I would paint a few layers first, then add whatever you like for looks.

Really---waterproofing is a first and it will make the peel and stick come up easier too.

I vote for paint or spar varnish. Water and vapor proofing the floor is important. I chose to seal the plywood floor on top and bottom with multiple coats of epoxy. Will skip using Linoleum or tile on the cabin floor to shave off weight. I may varnish over the epoxy, or paint it with interlux brightside boat paint, if there's enough left over after doing the outside and galley floor. I do like to look of the plywood cabin floor with a clear finish.

I may fiberglass the galley floor with more epoxy and fiberglass cloth if there is enough left over after doing the walls, roof, and hatch. For extra water and scuff protection and to make it easy to wipe clean I plan to paint the galley floor with brightside marine paint too.

I've never built one without Lino/Vinyl flooring.

It just makes it look finished. Even if you can't see it...you know its there.

Another minus for paint/varnish is, and this all depends on the Paint/varnish you use is that in excessive heat. And when its the summer and its all locked up and in storage...that's excessive heat. Some of these coverings will re-gell, and your mattress is stuck to the floor.

I have seen this with curtains on a varnished wall.

Paint. We have lots of paint and the wife likes to paint alot.
Only in the walkway, nothing under the mattress.
