You didn't waste no time. Decided what you wanted and went for it. Looking good so far. Any idea on a paint scheme for the outside? Something to match the tow vehicle would be appropriate in my mind.

my son wants me to do it matt or satin black to match the 'T' but i'm leaning towards a cream/lemon shade of paint, maybe a two tone, might give it a 50's look! not made my mind up yet. next big step is the door (only one)
what shape n how to cut it out cleanly.

 Just a guess but your not in the EU huh! Love the whole thing. But you shouldn't go knockin up chassis'. You'll have a bunch of baby chassis runnin all over town and country.

Definitely gonna be a lite-weight build. Looking good so far.

Your frame has made me curious. I've got to dig up the chart that shows the horizontal and vertical weight limits for different configurations and materials. For my own enlightenment, I would like to know the limitations.

check the design library, Andrew has put a really good tool in there for doing those calculations and also included is a table with quite a few sections (if you need others I'm sure I or he could help with that calculation)

Oh yes we are - Heikki's tales about EU regulations are actually just Finnish regulations - we don't have any such regulations in the UK, though we may in the future.

And we don't even register trailers - you build it and hook it to the back of yer car, job done. The trailer carries a copy of the tow vehicle's registration number, though at least nowadays you do have to prove you own the tow vehicle to get a copy! (Before, you just walked into an auto shop and had a copy made....)

Thanks Kenny. I knew I had seen it and used it before. I just couldn't remember where. I guess I should learn to read the titles and not just look at the pictures when I am trying to find something specific. In my own defense, it was just after 4AM and I was rushing to get out the door for work when I posted my comment.

Squeaka... the table I referred to lets you compare the strengths of different styles of tongues and the maximum load they should conceivably support. It's based on shape and type of material used. For my own edification, I was curious as to what the maximum suggested weight for a trailer would be using your style frame. I used the tables before when trying to determine how much I could lengthen my HF tongue by replacing it with some square tubing I had access to for free at the time.

Every time I see those straps on the skin used, I think of a suitcase. Anyone made their TD look like luggage?

sqweaka,

I love your hot rod and the belt holding the hood down! That looks totally like something I would do.

I really like the frame also, I recognized it immediately from another one recently posted by another member, I apologize I don't know who it was, I just saved it under my "Future Teardrop" folder under the name: Cool_Frame maybe they will chime in, but I like the design

thanks for the comments ppl, the frame does seem a bit light to me. but i supose the strenth is in the floor of the teardrop and the weekest part of the frame will be the tougne area. once the body is fitted i can beef up that area if it seems too weak.

day 6

not much to photograph as i'm back to work now and i only got some work done on the internal hinged shelf and gave the outside its 4th coat of paint!
marked a line down the lenth of the body sides below which will be a diffrent colour. (not sure yet may be a pale lemon)
still waiting for wheel bearings and a few other bits coming so i can finish the chassis and get that under the body!

first camping trip will be the weekend of 12th june. need to keep at it, still need to make a bolt in towbar for the hotrod!

Very quick and cool build you have there, my good man. As a former "yank tank" driver that now proudly drives the excellent Ford Focus, I'm building a 4 X 4 X 9 on a similarly-configured, minimal chassis.

The floor of the tear will not be supporting the walking weight of many people, just two people sitting or lying down, basically, and an 80 lb deep cycle battery just aft and center of the trailer axle. Light and simple is the goal! I'd like to have the option of adding an expensive, small refrigerator as well and keep the total weight to under 900 lbs / 400 kg.

Again, I'm impressed with your rapid, nice-looking build, squeaka.

(1 lb = 0.45359237 kg -or- 1 kg = 2.20462262 lbs

...for those here in the States like me who were scratching their headz)
