New from TENNESSEE

Postby samcrimm » Thu May 28, 2009 1:26 pm

Hey Everyone,

I am Sam Crimm II from Tullahoma,TN and interested in building a teardrop, sure love the look of the Ken-Skill, any one have the plans for one? I have looked and just not found any yet.
Any way I am a Aerial Photographer and have a Cessna 182. And I go on the weekend to places to take pictures to sell also. So a Teardrop for me would be the way to go!!

I plan on documenting my build because I see how much it has helped me with figuring out what I want that I should return the favor!

Thanks
Sam

Hey Sam,

Welcome to the forum. We're just down the road in Smyrna. We have a pretty active group here in Tennessee. We started a Tear Jerkers chapter here last year and have had two gathering. The first was at Old Stone Fort SP last fall, and then Warriors Path SP this spring. The next one is at Natchez Trace SP in September.

If you'd like to come by and see our tears just let me know. We have a home built and a 1947 Cub Sportsman (which is in the process of being taken completely apart), and we'd be glad to show them to you.

I like the campground down at Arnold... do you know if they have completed the renovations?

Good luck on your build,
Mark and Pat.... sid n side

Hi Sam, welcome to the forum. Cessna 182, ah yes, my favorite plane, fixed gear, constant speed prop and perfect for towing gliders. Lucky you. Now, on to building that dream teardrop. Do try to check with some of your local builders and get some pointers from them. Also, if you can make it to a local TD gathering, you will meet a bunch of neat people that will bend over backwards to help you with any build concerns.

Good luck on your project, alter your design any way you want, after all, you don't want an exact duplicate of many that have been built. That is what makes home-built tears so special. Get that frame and start that one-of-a-kind Tennesee Teardrop Trailer

Welcome, Sam! It's always nice to see a fellow aviator on the site. I currently fly a Lear 60 which is a fine airplane, but no match for the 182 on a dirt mountain strip with a load of camping gear! There is a company in California that will trace a Ken-Skill profile for you, but I am not sure if plans are available yet. Hear is the link: http://www.lilbear.teardrops.net/plans.html

I actually own a Lil' Bear and it is a fine teardrop. Good luck on your research and have fun with the build! I am looking forward to seeing your pictures.

Flying a plane is no different from riding a bicycle. It's just a lot harder to put baseball cards in the spokes.

Well I don't have to worry about a barber pole on my 182 but I have set a few over speed horns off before........

I have owned my 182 since 76 we have been a lot of places and seen alot of grass and dirt. Thanks for the link!

I must have missed this the first time around.

Welcome!

I am also just up the road from you in Smyrna, TN. I am in the planning stages for my tear drop and the build is really to far off in the distance for my liking. I have to clear some other big project out of the way first.

I know you will enjoy the site here. It has a ton for great info and more importantly great people on it.

Pat and I had the pleasure to meet Sam and his wife Wendy this week. They stopped by the house for a tour of the tear. It always helps when you can lay your eyes on one before you build.

It was a great visit, and we look forward to camping with them after the sawdust flies. 8)

Sam had some of his photography with him and it was AWESOME! :applause: :applause:

Love that black and white checkerboard floor. Wanna redo my floor and Backsplash in my galley with that. Think it will go w/ my retro colors.
Your Tear looks great.
