I think I just about have my hubby, the weasel (term of endearment, not a slam), convinced. I think I'm getting my scooter.

I carefully presented the facts and comparisons with other scooters to the hubby and I think I'm getting a Buddy next weekend.

I've been in contact with a dealer in Minneapolis, got him to come down a bit in price, to cover the long trip down.

And to cinch the deal I told Myron that we should take the teardrop down for the first camping trip of spring!

I hadn't even resorted to pouting or whining yet! My next stratedgy was to total up what he has spent on his dirt bikes, four wheeler and shop woodworking tools.
.................................ya know the more I think about this.....maybe I should have posted this in the lady teardroppers section.

I think I'm giving away trade secrets of female stratedgy!!

just did a little research and that scooter is from Taiwan and should be OK -- most of the stuff from the mainland is sorely lacking (though making some improvement -- some day...).

It's an American company outsourcing their production to another country. Not real happy about that but at least the production quality is backed by an American company. Comes with a two year road-side assistance warranty.

yeah I saw that and that why it's probably OK. The stuff from the mainland is REALLY cheap but the quality can be from OK to just absolute crap. I'm still a fan of the Japanese scooters though as I think they are better made. You can buy a used Japanese one for no more money, but in the case of the Buddies, they are probably just fine. There are a lot of American companies outsourcing to mainland China, but it evidently doesn't mean much as the quality is still Chinese. The quality from Taiwan is much better as a rule and they are now making quite a few good tools and other machined products including bicycles (though the best ones are still generally made in the States or Europe).

Erv,

Thank you for the photos. I already have an extra long ball mount that I needed to clear the spare tire on the back of my previous tow vehicle, a Jeep. So with a clamp-on bike rack like yours I could probably attach it directly to the ball mount without having to modify it. This is the ball mount that I have. 16" between ball and pin hole. On the new tow vehicle I could attach the bike rack right behind the ball mount receiver on the hitch. Even though the new tow vehicle does not need an extended ball mount I never got the normal type as the extended one still works fine. It took just a while to get used to the trailer responding quickly in turns, both going forward and backing.

Bill
Thats great. Just remember, the longer the drawbar the more weight it puts on the tow vehicle. And if you raise it, that puts it up out of the way of the trailer. Helps when you have to back into a sharp turn or jack knife it to fit in some where. With mine up the little bit, the truck bumper hits the trailer first. The bikes are out of the way. But if your setup works that way thats cool. Seems like I always have to play with stuff to get it the way I want it. But I do like to tinker. :) Thats why I had to buy the first tear. If I were to build one I would be to old to go camping by the time I had it the way I wanted everything. Now I can start one and take my time. And if I get it done and am to old to use it, My son said he would put it to good use. Ha.

I have a Kymco Yup, a 49cc scooter with the governor off so it really moves. It's one of the largest made and feels really solid, runs well. And it's FUN!

I have an 86 Honda Helix 250. Have thought of building a new TD to haul it or my 08 Honda 750 camping, but then think about converting a small enclosed trailer to camper. Started building a tubular steel tailgate for my pickup to haul the scooter, but got sidetracked. the scooter is too long to haul with the tailgate up, and the tounge of my TD is too short to pull with the tailgate down.
If I could shut my brain off, I could save myself alot of time, money and effort.

Aaron,

Would one of these make enough room to tow the trailer with the pickup tailgate down?

Ok, good, I am thinking outside of the box now. Before posting this I had no idea of all the places to put a scooter. I could even put it on the front of my little truck. I liked some of the hitch ideas too. That double hitch deal could work. Thanks for all the great ideas.

I guess I will have to check the length of my current hitch.
Thanks

A fella across the street from me made a setup to put his small 50cc tank motorcycle on the front of his F-250. He's been hassled 3 times by the police now about it. It doesn't cover his headlights but they say it decreases visability enough to make them want to stop him for it. Not one has issued a ticket. Just told him to not carry it that way again.

I tell you this not knowing the legality of it, but to warn you that you may get hassled about it if you put it on the front.

Holy Moley. They (cops) must be running out of things to do. Good point though. Guess we must be careful.

I don't know what it is.... but scooters are fun. I have a big bike and I can say that I have had the funnest memories on scooters.

There are sure a lot of them out and about now.
