Window question

When you set the window inside the cutout, what type of sealer do you use between window and aluminum siding before you install the clamp ring? I figure there must be something to keep the out water. That's my project tomorrow.

Jim,
Putty tape seems to be the popular choice... easy to use, easy to clean up and easy to replace, if you ever need to pull the window frame for whatever reason.
RV stores carry it, I've seen it it grey and black.
If you cant find it, I'd opt for a closed cell double sided adheasive glazing tape. You could always just silicone it too, but it would require a cut out knife, should you ever decide or need to remove the frame.

I didn't know what it was called, but that (putty tape) is what the guy gave me when I bought my windows. I bought my windows from a camper shell manufacturer.

You should be able to buy (Butyl), It comes in rolls from an auto glass shop well that's what they call it in Canada! It's used to install window's in vans that are bolted into place. it's sticky black rubber that can be compressed(it's similiar to putty) it has to be pretty mild out or relatively warm in your shop to use though.

Thanks all!! Now I have two choises, putty tape and closed cell adhesive tape. That makes me having to drive to two differant stories. I might get lucky and go only to one. I'll let you know the out come....

Butyl tape comes in many shapes and sizes... It also comes shimmed and non shimmed...

Well I used 1/8" putty tape and it worked real well. I set the window put on the clamp ring snd set the screws and one door complete. But, as I sat there admirering my work, I noticed that the manufacturer put the slide handles on the outside of the window so a theif could just slide it open, cut the screen and he's in. I always have to do things twice anyway, so what one more time. The window does look great.

Argh!!!... That just bugs the heck out of me when the manufacturers screw up like that!!!

I used black silicone....then tried to remove the windows later to do a radius treatment on them...no way they were coming out without damage to either the window or the door....way glued down....Doug

I just installed one of my windows. It is a semi temporary installation because I am going to put aluminum on later. I used close cell foam weather stripping because I didn't want to waste my putty tape.

Even with the gray putty tape, I had to use a rubber mallet to knock the window off the door. I think as time goes by that tape will take a set and be harder to remove the window. That's my guess. Putty tape here in Alaska run $7.95 a roll for 1/8". Have no clue how many feet to the roll.

The face of the clamp ring on the inside of the door had a 1/8" gap between the ring and the door.
A brilliant idea popped into my head and I used 1/8" weatherstripping, 3/8" wide. It was brown in color and boy do that give a nice finished look.
