Hi from Florida

Postby JayM » Mon Jun 08, 2009 5:52 pm

Hello everyone.

I finally registered and wanted to say Hi, and thanks to everyone for all of the great info. My name is Jay, and my wife Ruthanne and I live in Jacksonville Florida. I started looking here last year, and decided to build a teardrop. My wife and I had seen the teardrops on the Travel Channel and liked them, and wanted to downsize from the older motor home we have used here in Florida, and upsize from the tents we have used while camping in North Carolina. We had looked at the T@bs, and the Little Guys, and then I found this place. After reading this forum almost obsessively for a couple of weeks, I started my build on a Tractor Supply 4x8 no-floor trailer in July of 2008. We took it on it's first trip in October, to Mt Pisgah and Lake Powhatan near Asheville NC.
I used the Generic Benroy plans as a starting point, but framed the walls and insulated rather than use 3/4" ply for the sides. It's mostly done, but there are still some details to be finished, and a few things that I will probably change down the line.

Here is one pic, and there are a few more in the album.

Hi Jay and welcome to the forum. You have a beautiful Teadrop...thanks for sharing your baby with us. I live in the Tampa Bay area and have camped once at Ft. Clinch State Park. That is a very nice place to camp. There will be a gathering in November at Anastasia if you want to join that gathering. I think it's Nov. 6-8 and Woody says they are in the Sea Urchin section. They are a fun group to camp with.

I love your curtains. Very cool.

Thanks, Becca. Ft Clinch is nice. I've camped there, but not yet with the teardrop. I'd like to make it to Anastasia, but we will be in Barberville that weekend at a festival there.

My wife and daughter made the curtains and covers for the cushions. They have a business making tie-dye clothing, so the tie-dye for the curtains seemed like the thing to do.

Hey Jay!

Good looking TEAR :applause:

Where are all the pic's of the saw dust, smashed thumbs, empty beer cans, doors or trim that were cut to small? :? and not a single pic of a mistake with a quick solution that made for a better outcome than the original plan called for.
You better give that one to me and start over

Just kidding  welcome aboard.
Where are we going and why am I in this hand basket?

Didn't get a picture of the smashed thumb. Hard to use the camera :O

Marijo and Bill,

Thanks. Yours is very nice also. It looks a lot more finished than mine. I wish I had as much storage as you do. Maybe in the next one....

We have a gathering at Little Talbot State Park by Jacksonville as you already know coming next Feb (dates TBA) 2010. Since you wont be able to go to Anastasia in November. Maybe we all can get together at that gathering

Woody,

I saw the pictures from this year and it looks like it was a lot of fun. I hope we can make it next year. That's just up the road for us, and I don't think we have anything planned for February.

Etech and hiker chick - Thanks

Thanks, Steve.

I've been lurking so long I feel like I already know everyone here. We are looking forward to actually meeting some of you at a gathering somewhere and seeing everyone's trailers up close.

Welcome, Jay!

If you'd like to do the Anastasia State Park in St. Augustine this November 6th-8th, I recommend snagging a campsite now. Here's the thread. We took The Big Lug there last year for it's maiden voyage. Great park, great folks and very close to you.

Cathy Jo,

Thanks for the welcome. I didn't see the reply because we were in the mountains in North Carolina with the teardrop for a few days. I will post some pics when I get them off of the camera.
We'd like to make Anastasia, but already have plans for that weekend. Looking forward to Little Talbot in February next year.
