Hi to Everyone

My name is Wayne. I would like to start by saying what a wonderful website you have Mike. It has given me alot of ideals on how to build a Teardrop trailer. I'm currently gathering up tools to start on my teardrop. I bought a mig welder this week, and yes I know how to use it. I just didn't have one myself. I have seen some craftsmanship put into building a teardrop and some great ideas. I'm kinda stuck on the design of my teardrop and hope to get some help. I will say, when I seen one at a local gas station, I knew I had to build one for me, so I'm sold.

Again thanks for the headstart with the ideals.

Hi Wayne, welcome to the forum. Lets see, you are in Poplar Bluff, just a hop, skip and a jump from Donophin, where my sweet wife was born and raised, so you can't be half bad. Good for you, planning on building a teardrop trailer. Now, all that you have to do is weld that trailer together, slap some sides and roof on it, putter around with a galley and some cabinets, and you have built a one-of-a-kind, truely Misourian rig that you will always be proud of.

Do take plenty of pics, ask any questions that you like, and by all means, try to make it to a local gathering, or at least get together with some of the other Missourians that are builders or users of our little teardrop trailers. By the way, are there still fish in the current river?

Good luck on your build, your life will never be the same.

Hi

Yes, there is still fish in the Current River. Some of the people that I work with went floting last weekend and stated that the river was up.

Again glade to meet you.

Help me clear the air on my TD project

Postby WayneFromMo » Fri Jun 12, 2009 10:14 am

Hi everyone
Before I get started on building, I need to complete the design stage. I have seen about a thousand different ideas. I seen some incredible craftsmanship put into these TDs. Keeping this in mind the TD world has made it very hard for me to make up my mind on my TD. So I’m asking for a little help.
1.Let’s start with a list of what I like.
2.Full to Queen size bed.
3.Stand up in.
4.Storage
5.Cook inside when needed
What designs that I’ve seen, that I like.
1.T@B loved it but can’t get past the price. That dude is wide.
2.Widget, The width again.
3.The Winter Warrior, still like it, but the raising part gets me. (I had a pop up to collapse on me while we were asleep).
I like the traditional style of the Tear Drop. After what has happened on my last three hunting trips (rain)
That makes any outdoor activity hard (cooking).
Where I’m at on my design is a Benroy that you can stand up in, on a 6x12 foot print, with a galley up front.
I'm drawing this in Auto Cad, so trying suggestion would be no problem.

BTW how wide did the Baja Benroy work out to be?

Hi Wayne welcome to the forum. I like the Winter Warrior, since I have one.

You wouldn't ever have the top collapse on ours because the back wall hold it up and can be latched down in place so it can't move in a wind. If in some way it did happen with the back wall hinged at the top you can get in and out with the top down if need be.

I bet that was quite a surprise having the top drop when you were a sleep. With some of the pop ups I've seen I could see how it would happen if the cable broke.

A gear striped when the wind started blowing. It was a Coleman popup. The hard part was getting out. We cut small trees and propped it back.

That is a great latin line as well.

Widget......... too wide?!? (gasp!) We have a Widget in progress and we love it!! I don't know how tall you are or what you are towing with but here's the skinny on our's.

* It's 69" wide on the outside, 67" on the inside.......... I can touch both walls standing inside.

* I'm 5'2" and my GF is 5'4" and we have plenty of room to stand up in due to the dropped floor.

* We are towing this with a '05 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

* King size bed, baby!!!!!!
